MY NEW YOUTH SPORTSTER, BEFORE .....& .....AFTER.....

I had a Sportster on order through local dealer who is a big (compared to others) NEF dealer, for 6 weeks. I finally told him I'd accept a youth model if he could find that, as I planned to put wood stocks on it anyway.
I eventually called to cancel, but before I could tell him why I called, he said he had a youth model coming in the next day....so I bought that...without having fired it yet, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, and have the youth stocks in case any children come along (my oldest is 20)..
The scope is a Weaver Classic R4

Replacing the plastic stocks

I like the looks of your "grown up" Sportster.  I did the same thing with my Sportsters.  I bought one in 22LR for my son and one in 17HMR for me.  They are such nice little rifles that I soon went back to get a 22WMR just to complete the set.  I know that I could have got a 22WMR barrel, but at $103 for the complete gun there just is not much of a savings there.  After I got the Sportsters home, my son said "I like the guns, but I don't like those black plastic stocks".  Hmmm...after I thought about it for a while, I decided that if I had only owned "plastic guns" my entire life, I would want my "real guns" to be made of wood and steel....no plastic!

So I ordered some new stocks for them...one of each type...walnut, cinnamon laminate, and camo laminate.  Here's the first one that I put together.  It's a Sportster in 22WMR with the walnut monte carlo stock.  I put a Swift Premier 4-12x40ao scope on it using Burris Zee Rings (high).  I'll post some pictures of the laminate ones when I get them put together.

Very nice, moonlitin!
I do like the H&R style fore end on yours.
I suspect that quite a few people like wood on their Sportsters!

That 4-12x40 looks like a lot of scope! Minute of squirrel's eyeball?

Oh ya...and it shoots as good as it looks...this is between 8 and 10 rounds (I lost count) through the same ragged hole at 25 yards.  I can't wait to see what it does at a longer distance.

:grin: Just got my NEF in 223 with bull barrel about a week ago. It came with a laminated stock with the H&R type forarm Is a little lighter in color looks great! What a shooter, but heavy. With scope it almost 9lb's. Love it. :grin:  :grin:

I finally got my stocks swapped and my scope mounted on my 17 HMR Sportster.  I even got to shoot it today.  Here's a picture of it.  When I get the camo laminate stocks on my son's Sportster I'll post a picture of that one too.

I like the look of the fatter H&R type forestock myself. To me they make the guns look more balanced.   They look butt heavy with the schnabel forestocks.  Nice looking guns guys.

Moonlitin, really like your 17 HMR Sportster.  I want to do that to mine.  Any problem because of the heavy barrel on the 17?

No problem at all with the heavy barrel.  My son's 22LR Sportster is in the same style stock/forend as my 17, except his is "camo" laminate and mine is "cinnamon" laminate.
