356 /41 GNR? Where can I get more info?
« on: April 06, 2004, 11:07:02 PM »
I keep seeing references to Gary Reeder's alternate chamberings in 356 and 41 GNR, where can I get more info on these?  Anybody know if he has a website?  Thanks.

.41 GNR

I have a .41GNR on a Blackhawk.  I opted for another cylinder rather than opening up the original - and I'm glad I did.  A couple reasons for this, first of all I still love the original Mag chambering & second, the cylinder done by Gary is just so darn good looking!  Great bluing & ".41 GNR" lightly engraved around the cylinder.

I've mostly stuck with his recommended loading with Sierra 170's and indeed have found them to be flat shooting, good performing.  I've also loaded some 210's and found them to be a bit more accurate overall, but not by much.

I know some fellers have loaded 250 & heavier cast, but I've not done so yet - I'd love to hear from them as well.

I had Gary do some other work...Maxi throat, action job, Bisley hammer, fit grips & Belt Mtn base pin.  Very pleased with the results.  There is more info on the .41 GNR round at www.cartridgeperformance.com  This is a friend of Gary's that is making "factory" loads for several of Reeder's wildcats, though reloading is a cinch.

I know there are others on-site who have much more experience than I do on the round, but that's my two-cents.

This is my duel cylinder .41, also in .41RemMag and .41GNR
and also by Gary Reeder. This gun has only been shot with
 cast bullets 250g - 280g stuff. Currently I'm shooting CBPT 250g GC/17.5g/2400 in
 .41RemMag and CBPT 265g GC/4227
(at work can't recall load). First load is a 1200+FPS load the
second is a 1400+FPS load. Both are stout and a hand full.
My sons will shoot all I load in these calibers. They like to “kill”
old phone poles and abandoned cars/trucks. BTY i have used
the 250g bullet to kill five 600+ pound animals all with one shot.
Three in .41RemMag and two in .41GNR#2(14 inch Reeder Contender).
Love those .41s'

Thanks guys, I have been hearing about Mr. Reeder for years, but never knew all the goodies he offers.  Quite a lineup!  Maybe it's time to get that .41 Mag I always lusted after......

Crawfish,

What is the rifling twist on that hotrod?  I've read that the standard twist (I believe to be 1:18.75) and that this is not optimum for bullets over 250.

I'm saving my pennies to have mine rebarreled & new sight.  Just interested to know your experience & what twist rate you have.

Thanks!
