Cheddar Cheese Primers?

Has anybody used, or heard of, CHEDDITE 209 primers?  I know this sounds like a joke (what do you get when you cross cheddar cheese and cordite?), but my gunstore sells them and claims they are the largest brand sold, world-wide.  

At about $1.20 per 100, the price is right.  Is there any reason not to use them for blackpowder?

I've not tried or even seen them but several guys have reported good results.  I do believe they are made in FRANCE.

The Great Underclocked is right, as usual. They are French, and inexpensive.

Cheddite 209's - I get them $15.00 a thou, been using them for three years now reloading trap shells and touching them off through my inlines.  I hate to say this cause as soon as I do I will get one, but never had a misfire either in the shotgun shells or in an inline.  They are not the hottest 209 out there but they work great on the loads I drop in the trap  shell and the 100 grains of T7 that I shoot.  They also come with a bit of red or black shellac over the business end to help keep moisture out.

I used one pack of a 100 and that is my last! two reasons one they were a tight fit in my huntsman primer holders compared to the Winchester primers I use now and 2 just to be political I will not support anything made in france!! Jim

I bought 1000 a coupla years ago.  I tried them in the Encore 209x50 with three pellets (150 gr) Prodex and had the worst blow back of any load I tried.  I tried them in my Savage, with 48 gr IMR4227, they seemed to be soft and I had a difficult time extracting them from the face of the bolt.
That said, I used the rest in 12 ga reloads and experienced no adverse results.  In fact I thought they worked very well for field loads.
As far the French thing.  You know, they just maybe right about the Iraq thing.  There is a lot to be said for minding ones own business.

Finally got to try the Cheddites and they shoot fine, but they do stick in the breech plug!  I've never used a primer extractor tool with other primers - just a thumbnail usually does it.  But you'll need the tool or a screwdriver or something to get these Cheddites out, about half the time.

When cleaning, little bits of that red shellac sealant were in the bore, and more junk had blown past the primer.

C'mon - - - I like the "old" Jerry Lewis as much as anybody else. :lol:

Recob's has sold Cheddites in this area at the trap clubs for a long time, their price is the only attraction. It is just one of the least costly components in a shotshell or a ML round-- and I use Remimgton 209 STS primers because they fit the Nitro 27 hulls the best, for muzzleloaders I far prefer 209A Federals due to misfires with the Remingtons.

Randy just figured this site  is for muzzle loaders and you would not appreciate a argument about politics and the french. Since I moderate the board there I do not mind talking about my views there.  :shock:   Jim
