Are you sure they aren't steel core?? Some steel core bullets have a steel rod about .175" in diameter and .500 long swaged inside of the lead. I melted one down before by accident and found the surprise inside. It was mixed in with some range lead and found it's way in the pot. I have no idea what it's intent was except armour piercing.
