Setting up rifle
« on: April 13, 2004, 04:18:34 AM »
I shot the interarms mark 10, Federal 270 bear claws showed that the rifle has potential. First step will be bedding. I have not bedded a flat bottom action before. Do you bed the chamber area, fully bed the action or allow clearance along the side? What after market trigger, I shoot a 2 oz trigger on my comp guns, is the set trigger worth the extra money and do they work well.  I am thinking of adding a mercury recoil reducer would you install in forearm or buttstock or both. The rifle now weights 10 lbs, 12lbs would be  would be ok. I am planning a plains game hunt, I don't think that 2 lbs will make much difference. A quick follow up shot may.

Thanks

Steel killer,

Mercury inserts go in the butt stock.  Go to C&H Research's web site  http://www.mercuryrecoil.com/index.htm#top and follow the directions.  Lawdog

into the forearm, I may install one in both the forearm and buttstock.
I have never put one on a rifle, will it effect the accuracy of the rifle.

Steel Killer,

Bed the recoil lug,all around the rec. ring and about an inch and a half of the barrel.Make sure the bolt handle isn't touching the stock when closed.I use timney triggers and they work fine.

Steel killer,

I have C&H Research inserts in all of my rifles from .340 Weatherby up to my .450 Rigby.  All have only the one 11 oz. insert in the butt stock.  I have never tried them in the forearm.  I have no idea if they would even work there.  My inserts have effected accuracy, made it better as they really tame the recoil thus letting you shoot more.  If you go ahead and install one in the forearm let me know how it works for you.  Lawdog
