want to know about reloading for the .221 fire ball ,,, i have the rem 700 classic in this caliber and i am going to start to relaod for it,,, i have a redding boss press on the way and a set of rcbs dies.. what else do i need other than a manual,, and r ther any good loads out there for this gun.. i am wanting to use it on coyotes and fox.. but i do not want to destroy fox which i think will happen using the v-max or other varment bullets :?

Creek Chub,
You will need a good set of powder scales. I personally prefer Redding, but there are several brands on the market that will work. You might want to try some of the new 35 grn. varment bullets. If you rifle will group them you should be able to keep them in the animal. Good luck and be carefull, you will be working with presures around 50,000 psi.

If you go to the Nosler website they list an excellent load for your .221 with their 40 gr. BT and RL-7. I use the same load with 40 gr. v-maxs and it kicks butt. Another is the 40 gr. bullet load at the Hodgdon site using Lil'gun. It is by far one of the least picky calibers to load for on the planet....I have yet to find a load from a loading manual that my gun doesn't like.

I have a .221 Rem Fireball, in a TC Encore with a 26 inch barrel.

The load I came up with is pretty good in my rifle! The results are good as well! See my post in Hunting in New York, First long-range coyote.

Rifle: TC Encore
Caliber: .221 Remington Fire Ball, 26 inch barrel
Bullet: 40 grain Speer SP (.223 diameter)
Powder: 19 grains IMR 4198 (slightly compressed)
Primer: CCI 400
Velocity: 3549 FPS (3-shots 3514, 3567 & 3567)

DISCLAIMER: I am not recommending that anyone use this load, I'm just saying that it works for me. I therefore assume no responsibility for it's use!

This cartridge is easy to load for! I have fired all of my brass once, then the next time I reload it, I bring the ram of the press to the top of the stroke and screw the die down tight onto the shell holder and lock the die in place! I do not have the "kick-over" at the end of the resizing stroke!
Some call this partial resizing, some call it neck sizing! In this process, the neck gets resized and the body of the case is "partially" resized!

Fox are not that hard to kill, but it`s easy to do alot of damage to their hides. I would recomand that you use the litest bullet that you can get to shoot accurately. For coyotes the 40 grn. or 45 grn. bullets should work well.

Buy yourself a pound of RL 7 and just about any 40g bullet. My classic loves a max load of RL 7 with 40g Blitzkings. My rifle seems to prefer flat based bullets also. I have experimented a lot with 34g TNTs and have not found a good load yet.

This is a PDog that found what my 221 Classic with 40g Blitzkings will do.
