A.P. and tracer rounds

does shooting mil. A.P. and tracer bullets hurt the barrel?
I have heard that shooting the A.P. bullets will "open" the barrel some.

Hey Rick!
I'd stay away from that depleted uranium stuff!!!!!!!!!!!  Might make more than the barrel glow a long time after it cools down.

short answer is - no.

AP rounds have a jacket just the same as ball rounds (and tracers!) and tracers don't usually burn inside the barrel. There's plenty enough of that already!

Now, like savageT says if you stumble into a batch of DU rounds .....  :)

Cheers!

Some of the AP stuff actually has a steel jacket
and will harm your rifling in a short time.
What I had was in 9mm Parabellum and came on
10 round stripper clips. I think it was Chech or Yugoslav.
The Tracer rounds I have fired deposited some sort of white
dust or soot in the bore, but did no apparent damage.
The primers on these types of rounds can sometimes
be quite hard, so watch your firing pin.

I have yet to get any tracer rounds
the A.P. bullets I have are the steel core with copper jacket . I have cut one in 1/2 to be sure.

I have not seen small arms rounds in D.U. I thought they where from 50 cal and up.

I will be hand loading all my rounds so I will not worry about the primers being hard.
