Posted this over on the Savage site, but here it is again for those that're interested. I found a fairly easy way to store my ramrod in the stock and not have it putting pressure on the bottom of the barrel. I was having trouble keeping the little spring steel retainer in my stock anyway so just decided to eliminate it, plus I don't like it pressing up on the barrell.
I took a piece of aluminum arrow and installed a screw with 8/32 threads inside one end. The 8/32 threads will allow a little play when installing the ramrod making it easier to put in and take out. Then I just used bedding compound to hold the piece of arrow in the slot on the stock.
By the way the shaft size is 2613 if anybody's interested.
