a 100yd group with a 30-30 handi rifle.center to center just under 1 inch.handloaded 125gr spitzer over 37gr of blc-2

also a 5 shot group from my 223

As soon as I get some more of the 150 gr rcbs swc, I'll have a card to show for the 357 max. Right now the hunting load for the Max is:
180 gr xtp over 18.5 gr w296, Rem 7-1/2 SRP.

josebd,the 223 load is 27.5gr of blc-2 with a 55gr Nosler BT bullet.

RV,i used the 125 Sierra bullets.i think they are the same ones you have.i used the blc-2 powder because i have lots of it,there is better powders out there for the 30-30.i think lots of people over look the old stand by the 30-30.lots of deer taken with them every year.good shooters with mild recoil.i going to try some 150gr spitzers in this rifle soon.i think it can do better.i also want to work up a cast bullet load for this rifle.it wood be cheap to shoot and lots of fun.i still must get a scope on my 357mag,open sights on that thing.im a scope shooter now,i gave up shooting with open sights.

Hey jeff,
Are you weighing those seirra's? I have found them to vary as much as .2 gram. (1.00 grams is like a packet of equal so .20 might not be enough to worry with) I have a electronic gram scale that a NARC friend of mine gave me. Fast way to check. My old balance scales are to slow to check component weights.

I've got one more test with the .41 mag loads, then the 30-30 is on the bench. I can't help but think that these NEF 30-30's should be able to shoot a .75" group @ 100. I've got 6, 125 sierras spitzers loaded with 34.5 gr of IMR4064 ready for the bench. I do want to test these on a calm day but thats kinda like waiting for a democarp to hate abortion, and love guns!

RV,i also think these 30-30s will shoot that good .i loaded up some max loads and i also loaded up some 110gr Speer hollow points to try.i hope to load and try some 150gr spitzers of some kind soon.i think the 150gr bullets will shoot the best.time will tell

Did you ever stop to think how bad the rest of us feel when you show us groups like that? Couldn't you post some 3 or 4" groups just once in an effort to boost OUR egos? Oh sure, it's all about YOU right!
Of course I'm just kidding, great groups! Looks like your ready to repeat the #1 spot in the postal match. Start working on your acceptance speach.

I'm trying to work up some 30/30 loads using 165 gr. Sierra HPBT. What COL did you settle on?

i cant seem to seat the bullets out along ways with the 30-30 dies that i have.they seen to be right at factory length.i tried some Speer 110gr hollow points today and they dont shoot for beans.i also went up to 38gr of blc-2 powder ,a max load.this rifle shoots a little better there than under max some.this 30-30 is a great shooter,im real happy with it.the groups are nice round groups and it doesnt show any signs of vertical stringing at all.i am shooting this rifle with a 6-18 power scope.you will need some power if you want to shoot small groups

150gr bullets next,i think they will shoot even better

I plan on using the 30/30 spitzers, in a lever gun(only ONE in the mag. at a time of course). As far as length, I might be able to set the bullet on a charged load, and slip it in the gun, then close the chamber slowly to allow the rifling to set the COL. I can always crimp it using the Lee factory crimp die. I have 165 gr., 168 gr., and 180 gr. .308 bullets to try. I'll let you know how some of these 30/30 test loads shoot. My .223, is now shooting, very close to yours since I added a 6-18x50 scope on it. I added weight to the stock, ala the Buffalo Classic, and that has helped settle it down off the bags.

Jeff, that's a mighty good group for 125 grainers. I fearlessly predict you will get a lot better groups with 150s or 165-168s. I'm not much a .30-30 man, but I've put a lot of .30 cal bullets down a lot of barrels and consider 165s the place to start. 150s do well in some barrels and might be the better at the .30-30's lower velocities.

Saw a while back that somebody (Powder Valley?) had a supply of Nosler Solid Base. When they were readily available, they shot mighty well for me.

I agree, the 165, 168 grain bullets always worked best for me out of my .308 Win. I'm going to give the 180s a try, just so I have something to compare with.

Jeff I tried 110 hp seirra in my 30 Handi, didn't shot good more like
a pattron. I used the 125 gr spits in my 308 win with excelent group,
was NOT a handi,But Mod 88 win. I am going to try the 125's in my
30-30 handi. when I have time. Marv.

the 110 Speer bullets didnt shoot goog for me either.i have the 150 gr Sir spitzers all loaded up and i plan on shooting them tomorrow.i got my 30-30 die fixed so i can seat the bullets out some.i now have a total OAL of 2 7/8 inch.all i have to measure with is a tape.i am just off the lands with these handloads.they are so loooong that i cant use a factory Remington ammo box to put them in.

My .308 always shot best when the loads were a whisper away from the rifling. Hopefully that will hold true with the 30/30 loads. I don't know that every trick we use with other .30 loads will hold true with the 30/30, but it can't hurt to try. How many people must have tried this over the years, but I've never read about it anywhere else.
