After World War 2 most all Hornets were made for .224 diameter bullets.

T/C will be .224 with a 1:12" twist.  Should stabilize 50 grain bullets.  A 10" barrel may not get enough velocity to stabilize them, but I only know 1 way to find out.  Load some up and shoot them.  Also, you can shoot the .223 bullets in your barrel, but accuracy will not necessarily be phenominal, again the only way to know is to shoot a few and find out.

I had a 10" barrel and it will not stabilize the 50gr bullets well enough to get the accuracy you want or need.

The most accurate bullet I found was the Nosler 45gr hornet.  I will have to check but the best load I found was 9.6gr of 2400 with the bullet seated just off the lands.

With this load, I could put bullets through the same hole at 50yds and hold under 3/4" at 100yds.

Don't sell this round short. You should be able to get sub 1/2" groups at 75yds. Enjoy this little round. It is by far my favorite to shoot.

Good Luck,
HBL :D

I have been shooting 45 gr. Hornet bullets from Hornady (.224 dia.) over IMR 4227.  This combo will meet your accuracy requirements out of my barrel.  I just purchased some 35 gr. V-Max Hornet bullets (.224 dia.) and am gong to try them over some Win 296 just to see what kind of accuracy I get.

I have a bull barrel, but I would think that either would shoot okay although I have never tried the octagon.
