Have you hugged your Single-Six today?
« on: March 08, 2004, 04:27:51 AM »
I've been burning up quite a few rounds of LRs through my sweet little 5.5" stainless Single-Six lately. I swear, I don't think I'll ever handle another revolver that could ever hold a light to this one. No matter how much I shoot it, I just can't get tired of it! I've had about a dozen or so Single-Sixes over the years, in several variations, and some even shot just as good, but this one has really won me over, and likely will be with me from now on.

I slicked up the action, and installed a 30 oz Wolffe trigger spring, but other than that, it's completely factory. I'm intending to put a nice set of grips on it too, but I haven't decided on exactly what I want just yet. When I do, I'll post a picture, and get your opinions.

How many of you have a Single-Six, and where does it fit in your list of favorite revolvers?

If I could make mine shoot decent, I would hug it daily.  Maybe I need to go the other way!  Maybe if I started hugging it daily it would start shooting decent.

I want to hug mine....trouble is I don't got one just yet  ......If the government would just hurry the heck up a bit maybe I could change that...
Glad to hear you like yours though ...I love the way they look and like the versitility....Hopefully soon.
What's better Btw new or older? I have a chance to buy a new model 1976 centennial...... nice, but still somewhat undecided....

Mine is a 6 1/2" stainless, with both cylinders and it shoots as accurately as anything I've got.

I bought it because I liked its looks and it matches my Blackhawk (357) and to be honest, I wasn't very happy with how accurate it shot--at first.
With a little technique adjustment, I've learned to shoot this little beauty quite well.

I've held several competitions with all of my .22 handguns and the Single Six has finished first or second each time.

Oh--I'm giving it a big hug right now.

:D Mine is an Old Model, and it's been put away all winter.  It's also my designated bee gun, as in carpenter bees, and pretty soon it will come out and start being "hugged" again!

I can't believe it!!!

I've been dusting Bumble-bees/Carpenter bees for years! LOL! Every year, me, and my boy go out to our buildings, and have us a few bee shoots! I use my Single-Six with Winchester shot shells, and he loads the shot shells in single mode with his 10/22.

I've been searching high, and low for a Savage 22 LR smooth bore. I thought about a Garden Gun, but 22 magnum shot shells just cost too dang much. The Winchester 22 LR Shot comes 50 to a box for $4.95.

Of all my handguns, my 6.5" stainless Single Six is my favorite.  I bought it in 1977.  It was the first handgun I ever bought and I had to get my Dad to sign for it.  Whenever I go to the woods, I usually end up carrying it. I have lost count of the small game and varmints I have killed with it.  I changed the springs for a lighter trigger and put a Super Blackhawk gripframe on it.  I do that with all of my Blackhawks and all of my Single Sixes that are longer than 4 5/8".  It feels better in my hand and balances out the longer(especially the 9 1/2") barrels.

I bought mine the day I turned 21, because I could.  That and because I liked cowboy's so much as a kid.  I then made a leather "quickdraw" holster for it.  I have many more guns now, but it's still one of my favorites.  Even though it's slow loading, I'm surprised how fast a box or two of ammo can go through that thing.  Fun gun to shoot and very accurate.  I'm heading to the range tonight and will take that one along.

Jerry,
DAMN, 'saw my first bee yesterday, and the only thing I was armed with was my hat!  'Rushed into the house, dug out the Six, loaded it up with shot, holstered it, and went back outside.
Didn't see him again.   Oh, well, there'll be more.

Tell me about it! Same here! I have owned my 5.5" stainless for close to 5 years now - Have probably fired more rounds through it during that time period than any of my other guns. Worked on the hammer to get rid of the creep and relieved some of the trigger spring tension. This one is definitely a keeper!
