Cleaning a Ruger single-six......

OK I got my single-six, now how much and what do you clean after a day at the range? Lets say you shoot 200 rounds. I will be shooting Dynapoint LR's.

Thanks,

Jim

Remove the cylinder and give each chamber a cleaning just as you would the bbl.  then simply give the whole gun a rub to remove any excess oils/dirt/grime, etc.  It's that simple.  If your asking becasue you don't have a owners manual, just give Ruger a call and they'll send one to you free.

Thanks, that's what I did after bringing him home..I just wondered if there was more..I also own a 22/45 and the cleaning is "different" with fiels stripping and all..... The only thing I use is Break Free CLP, is that enough?

Thanks,

Jim

Cleaning a rimfire? What Heresy. Wipe that sucker down and put it away. I never clean one more than that for anywhere from 1000-5000 rounds. If the cylinder gets crudded up remove it and clean. When you do that remove any build up of carbon or lead inside the frame. Keep the rod out of the barrel.

I agree with you on cleaning 22's.  I have had a Ruger Mark II  .22 semiauto pistol for nearly 20 years.  I have never field stripped it and have definitely not cleaned it more than twice in that time.

I also have a Ruger single six convertible.  I have had it about 4 years and have never cleaned the bore.  Once or twice I have wiped the buildup off the cylinder.

I might get one failure per box of one type or another with the Mark II but have never had any failure of any kind with the single six.  And the ammo I use is the cheapest I can buy.

However my S & W 317 that is about a year old seems like it might need a little more attention than either of the Rugers.
