Copper plated bullets for 44 & 444
« on: April 26, 2004, 08:50:34 PM »
I have some copper plated 240gr bullets. Does anybody have a good recipe for these in a 44mag?  Or at least what velocity should these be shot at? I really liked the PMC loading with plated WC's and was going to try to imitate them.
Can they be shot in a 444 or would that require gas checks?

Velocity?  Well it kinda depends.  I contacted Berrys Mfg. and they said to keep the velocities of their bullets to 1200 fps, yet my Uncles PC4 in .40 S&W pushes them at 1300+ fps with no sign of leading.  Rainier, I believe, lists on their website to keep them around 1400 fps.  I dont think youll have much problem with the mag, but Id be cautious with the 444.  No serious problems will arise, you just might get leading because the plating gets stripped off, which defeats the purpouse of the plated bullet.  Hope this helps.

I tried the Raineer (spelling?) in a 44 mag once and had terrible leading problems. I read that they are to be kept at 1000fps and under. Used the rest up in a 44spl with no problems.  KN
