I'm going to get it !!!

I'm going to get a Remington 1187 Premier 20 gauge. It will shoot 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells as opposed to just 2 3/4 inch shells like the model 1100. I think I'm going to get the 26 inch barrel instead of the 28 inch barrel it feels better. I don't really hunt turkey, geese or ducks and if I do I have a 870 Express 12 gauge I could use until I get my 1187 Premier 12 gauge next year! :-D

I'll be using the 20ga. for pheasant, grouse, rabbit, crow and maybe squirrel too. But mostly clay pigeon's! I was really thinking about getting a Remington 1100 in 16 ga. but I think the 20 ga. is a little more versatile. I can use 2 3/4 inch number 8's for squirrel and go with 3 inch number 5's for pheasant and everything else falls in between! I still like the 16 ga. and think it would work very well for me, but the 20 ga. will do everything the 16 ga. will do and I can get even lighter loads for smaller stuff!

Agree with your reasoning.  20 ga can also be used for duck, probably a little light for geese.  For everything elde you mentioned it's fine and easier on your shoulder than a 12 - important for clays.  I have a Beretta 20 ga AL390 that is quite excellent (but giving it to my son).  After a day shooting clays, the difference from the 12 can be appreciated.  The 20 ga ammo is also widely available; 16 is much harder to find.

That was another factor in me getting the 20 ga.

Well gents, giving one or more of your firearms to your son can prove to be a situation of turning lemons into lemonade if properly handled. Once your son is the recipient of a firearm, does this not leave an empty slot in the cabinet that needs filled with a new one? Let's face it, who among us could not use just one more firearm? When I present my son with a firearm, the Mrs also becomes far more agreeable to my eloquence regarding my own need for another "replacement" firearm so this can be win-win, my favorite hunting partner has some "new" for him iron to call his own and I get to break in a new firearm.
