What is the difference in the scope mounts on the encore between the carbine and the handgun barrels? I noticed that the mfgs list them as being different as compared to the contender which is universal.

I looked at the TC web site and they are both the same. 9907 for silver and 9899 for blue. KN

Depends on the brand. Most are the same. Burris makes a seperate pistol and carbine base. The carbine base is longer and sticks way out over the taper on the barrel. It then has a brass screw that you turn down to touch the barrel. I had one and returned it. The way the rings were spaced on it I could not get the correct eye relief because the turrets hit the rings.

You are not wrong. They will all interchange since the hole pattern is the same. Burris just happens to make one that they say is for a carbine but their pistol mount will work on the carbine, there just is not much room between the rings for eye relief adjustment. I use Leopold scopes and the eye relief is long enough that the turret has to go against the front ring with the Burris handgun mount on a carbine (then the eye relief adjustment is borderline). Longshot has that base with a Nikon scope and it works fine because the eye relief is a little shorter.
