:wink: Hey guys try this.
after i've shot a nice fox or yote, i skin all the way to the nose and pads, then lay furside down on a piece of plywood and use a scraper i made myself out of some mild steel,i scrape off remaining blood,gook,meat and all the undesirable stuff off the hide .
Then i use the cheapest coarse kosher salt i can get my paws on and rub on a generous amount . Let this stand for a couple of days out of the elements then scrape off all of the 'wet' salt and re-salt it again.
then i take it to my dads old barn to staple the hide to the wall , fur side facing the wall, nose up,tail down and staple stretching hide to a desirable shape. then i forget about it for a couple of months 4-5 is best!
periodically checking it out , for bugs n stuff usually i get some ladybugs on the meat i missed but they help you out! they dont seem to bother the fur one bit. then after it is as stiff as the barrel breaking on you're new N.E.F single shot! take it off the wall lightly scrape remaining hardend salt free and trim. I use kitchen shears for this, i cut out all the oops that i made with my knife and loose all of the staple holes.now you have a hair on stiff as a board hyde now what?
Well now you go to the shelf and get either kiwi camp dry spry, or shoe dressing and water proofer!!!
yes i know this sounds a little hillbillie but trust me this realy works!
spray or apply this stuff liberaly and work it in.
I had cut a sappling down some time ago at pops and kind of whittled out a 'dome' if you will ,kind of a rounded -easy shape that you pull the hide around fur side up! wet side down until yer trophy is baseball glove soft then let dry. then one more time on the stump with nothing on it then you're done!
