Guess everyone has the same experience....
.45 Colt, I'm not really rapping the cheap stuff, I often use it myself.
Some manufacturers cheap stuff is pretty good and barely distinguishable from their top stuff.
I would just like to see a little variety, so I can try the various rifles I have and use them for different tasks.
I may want to use Stingers or Velocitors to get that pesky woodchuck that hangs out toward the middle of a field, or I may want some standards to bag some bushytails. Then again, perhaps I am called upon to eradicate some "close in" varmints near buildings or near grouchy neighbors where subsonics or even CBs may best fill the bill.
Another day, I may want to do some competitive shooting or silhouette shooting, where still other types are best.
I guess my main point was that most of us using rimfires whether we are hunting , plinking or whatever, do it primarily for recreation.
If I were in a position where my job was to test drive automobiles for recreational purposes and somehow, all I could get to test were Dodge Neons. Now Dodge Neons are a pretty good car...but I don't want to test ONLY that brand/type every time.
I suppose one could play golf with only one club! I never played "cowpasture pool" myself, but I presume it's more enjoyable with a bag full of clubs...
The fact is, I use 3 different rimfire cartridges (.22lr, .22 mag, .17 HMR) for the same reason.
My post was only to point up the fact that apparently most people are happy to stay with only the Dodge Neons in their ammunition choices.
Can't really blame retailers though...I don't expect them to stock ammo that doesn't sell.
...Still; perhaps if they dared to stock some of the varieties, their rimfire trade may build up because they DO have the choices.
So they do stock some ammo that doesn't sell quickly at first....it won't rot!
just my two coppers...
