Spencer and I hunted our butts off all season, with not much luck. It was the first bow season for both of us, but alas, no bow kills. Our luck changed in early December, when we were both hunting out of treestands near each other. After a couple of hours sitting in the cold, he called me and told me that he was going to make his way over to me, and try to push a deer. Well, a few minutes later, I see a deer bounding down a slight hill near me. The deer jumped a creek, and then stopped to watch its backtrail. As it was running, I realized it was a buck, and had antlers tall enough for me to want to shoot. When it stopped, it was about 30-35 yards away, broadside. I did not wait any longer, and fired one shot from my new S&W 657 Classic Hunter II. My handloaded Hornady 210 grain XTP hit the deer in the neck, dropping him in his tracks, causing him to expire quickly. The buck was a nice tall 2 1/2 year old 8 point, which I am having a shoulder mount made from. This is the biggest buck I have ever shot, let alone saw, while hunting for deer. What a memory. I am very grateful to Spencer for taking me hunting there, and pushing that buck to me. Oh yeah, a minute after I shot, Spencer came down the same way the buck did, so I know he had kicked up the buck.
About a week later, Spencer and I were both hunting together again, in a different spot. I will let him tell you this story...
