About to order the 223 SS Heavy T/C 26" from Ed ......... will order both same time if I can figure out the 7mm-08 taper and length.

LONGWINTERS:  The Winters are long .......... and as I get older they get longer ..... then comes the heat and humidity to slow me down, Mosquitos and Black Flies to speed me back up.

Probably standard taper to lug around ..... 24 ok ... 26 a few more feet per second ..... life has a few more options these days than I can handle - LOL.

Rip, I agree with CK especially on the limbsaver recoil pad.  It made a hugh difference on my Encore.

The last snow is finally melting up here.  Next week the wood ticks will be out. :)

LONGWINTERS:  Thanx for that post. I've nevr shot a 7mm-08, but I like what I read .................. so, I'll just have to shoot one. I can handle recoil, but taming makes them more fun to hug - and one usually shoots better with their teeth in - LOL. The Encore is a light rifle and that = recoil.

OH YES - THE WOOD TICKS !

Again, I can handle lots of recoil - there's days when I even want more - LOL.

HAROLDCLARK:  I'll find that webSite and post it - right away. THAR >

Life can be complacated these days.

Found that if I want a 7mm-08 ss in 24 inch w/out iron sights. that the order time is 10-12 weeks. Can get right away in 26"........ may not shoot quite as well in 26 though ( Additional vibration ).

Will probably order and wait.

I got a 24" SS heavy barrel in 7mm08 last year from Foxridge in about 6 weeks.  It balances nicely, has enough weight to be stable, and short enough to pull up in a tree stand.  I haven't heard of any other barrel I would rather have.   :D

Harold,  I dont remember where I got mine from but they run about $26.00.  I would just look up Sims recoil pad on the net and you should get several sites where you can ck them out.

Here's a question:

Weight of a Full Bull Barrel in 24"  ?

Weight of a Heavy Barrel in 24 "  ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Will be getting one of the above in 7mm-08.
Wood ticks are no fun, but deer ticks(lime desease) are far worse.We have both around here.The damn deer ticks are so small you cant feel them on ya.The deer ticks are less harmfull and a person can usually feel them crawling.be carefull and wear your deet! 8)
CKNIGHT98:  Ordered a 24 Heavy 7mm-08 ....... this one will get a lot of target action. Don't know how short you can take a 7mm-08 and still have a shooter ? ....................... Lots of time for calling and changing the length .. 10-12 weeks.
I wouldn't hesatate to order a Bull 20" in 223 ... probably will.
CKNIGHT98:  That's what friends are for - I have a life long friend that has a lot of my things ............... and I have a lot of his - LOL.
I would call and shorten 24 to 22" 7mm-08 if someone could tell me the 22 Heavy would function well with that cartridge. I know that the 24 will honk !
With a faster burning powder (such as varget), I get +3000 fps velocities with a 140 grain bullet out of a 20 inch bbl.  Mine is actually 7-08 improved, but the load I'm shooting will work in a standard 7-08 case.
SMOKY:  I like the short barrels when they work with the cartridge & load. I may have to call in and shorten from 24".
THINKING:   24-22 or 20 for this 7mm-08 ?
CKNIGHT98:   For 7mm-08:  If a 20 will produce the same accuracy as a 24, then I'm for the 20"  It would take fast burning pwr for home brew, but would it handle over the counter ammo in a pinch ?
Hate to be beating this to no end - but I'm learning and there will be an end.
If 20, should it be a bull ?
If I order a 223, that would be a 20" Bull for sure.
A few feet per second means little to me - I grew beyond the 4000 fps thing long ago ................ comfort and placement is the goal.
CKNIGHT98:   I'm going to read here for a few more days and then call - change order to a 20" Bull 7mm-08 ............ nice to handle, cooler on the bench and no vibration .... something fun to shoot. My friend and I will load with Varget.
Order is with Fox R ................ should be fine.
If I don't hear any reasons why not - I'll change the order to a 20" Bull in a week.
