Tried some more of those Lyman 31141's DJ had sent a while back, (a 173 grain gas checked flat point boolit) this time using 20 grains of 5744 to push 'em. Was rewarded with 7 shots going into a hole that is 1.25" tall and .625" high (1 1/4 x 5/8) 5 shots are in a hole that is .625" square  Accurate Arms data suggests this boolit is traveling over 1800 fps    Will chronograph some and report later this weekend.

I have been thinking of trying 5744. I would like to hear your results.

I use 5744 in a 30-30 and a 308 with cast bullets. I have not tried them beyond 50 yards, but both shoot great at that distance. I use a .310 dia. bullet and a Lyman M die to get the bullet started.

JPH, if more shooting confirms those results and the chrony shows the velocities one would expect, sounds like you can stop right there.
Those are GOOD results for cast in a Handi.

JPH45, not being one to look for maximum velocity and shooting a flat point lead bullet I would lock those dies where they are and write that load into my loadbook for a long time. It sounds like a winner to me, congratulations!!!....<><....
