Muzzle Tamer Differences?
« on: April 26, 2004, 02:15:36 PM »
Hello,
I just got a factory 12 inch Hunter Barrel in 7-30 waters that has a factory muzzle tamer that is different than anyone I've ever seen on a standard factory barrel.  This one has nine small ports on each side with 4 ports on top, then a row of 3 and then a row of 2. It also has 3 ports pointed directly up.  I've only ever seen another like this on a custom shop carbine barrel in 30-30.
Most of the muzzle tamers I've seen have 5 ports on either side with 2 ports on top and three on the bottom row, with no ports pointing up.  The ports on these are also much greater in diameter than the ports mentioned in the style above.
Does anyone know why they are different?  Do they come from different time frames?  If anyone has any info, I'd like to hear about it.

thanks and regards,
 graycg

While we are on the subject of muzzle tamers, who does the best work?  I have a .375 JDJ and it is a monster that needs a tamer.

Does TC do the work, or do they send it out?  I know that SSK does this work.  How about the any other places.  Suggestions would be greatfully accepted.

I recently purchased a 12 inch 357 Max barrel that has the "many small holes" type muzzle tamer installed as described above.  By the looks of it, it has to be a factory TC MT, I think it is just another variation of the TC muzzle tamer that was done for a short time and then changed for whatever reason shortly thereafter.  If anyone has more info it would be interesting to know the details behind this change.

Wish I could have got a 30-30 that shot that good.  I have had two and they both shot shotgun patterns with much experimenting on my part.  Glad you have a shooter.

Wheelgun,
No chance to shoot yet, had relatives visiting.  Glad to hear you are happy with 30-30 groups, Thanks for the brass, got it loaded up already.  Good luck with the 30-30, it should treat you really well.

Thanks Graycg,
I decided that I can do without the tamer.  After shootin' fifty rounds for the sightin and chrono checks, my hands were a little beat.  If I just shoot it on a lesser basis, I can live with the pain.   :)

I do love a magnum pistol!!!    :agree:
