Red dot sight on air rifle?
« on: March 13, 2004, 04:05:03 PM »
Anyone ever try one out on an air rifle before? Thought of mounting one on my new R7. I use red dot sights on my 22 target pistols and shoot them fairly well. With the marginal lighting at the indoor range I thought the red dot would be ideal.

I have seen posts on other air gun forums praising this application for some uses.  I have been meaning to try one on my Super Sport buthaven't gotten around to buying some 30 mm rings that will fit the 14 mm sight rail.    I think the lack of paralax makes them good for short range small game hunting.

I have tried a few but prefer the magnification of a scope on my rifles.  Mounted a couple on my P1 and Crosman 1377 and didn't like them either so I went back to scopes.  Also tried them on a few different handguns and ended up taking them off them too.  Got them in the safe, may try them on something else someday.  Lawdog

Ive tried one of the new SMK "laser dot" nicknamed the twin peeks. Its a red dot sight and a laser in one package. It works quite well at "ratting" ranges and is good in poor light. Works pretty well but i still prefer a 1.5-5x20 scope and seperate laser. Having said this it was under £30 uk and i thought it was well worth the cash!
