New toy
« on: May 05, 2004, 11:34:01 AM »
I decided I was going to buy one gun this year...a thumbhole Omega, a Glock .40, or a Rem 700 VS .308.   The latter two were the more expensive as a CCW application was a co-requirement for the Glock.  The .308 would have been a fun-only choice as I can't hunt with it here.  I decided I'd look into an Omega at least, since buying one right now would be the only time that would give me enough range sessions to be comfortable with it by fall.
Well, the big Cabela's in Dundee, MI had ONE in stock...guy says they can't keep them on the shelves long.  I used the safety concerns about my old Traditions as leverage with the wife-to-be and it was a done deal.
I'm going to top it with a Leatherwood In-Liner and see if it lives up to all the hype.
The looks and feel are impressive.  However advertising that it has a 28-inch barrel is BS, muzzle to primer isn't even 28 inches!

They aren't alone. Subtract the QLA, and you'll get even less.

And you know you'll still keep that Traditions around for a quick second shot.

T/C warranty?
Just bought the new thumbhole Omega yesterday, and when I put a sling on it the front swivel popped out with almost no force applied.  Looks like the hole was stripped from the factory.
I can ship it back to T/C, but what is their warranty like?  Will they reimburse me for the shipping since it was their fault?  I'd think they should and I don't want to do business with them if I have to foot part of the bill for a factory defect.
The other option is to return it to Cabela's and do an exchange.  Those of you with T/C experience, which would probably work out better for me?
Thanks...

Or maybe I should keep it around as a target??

Hey, if anybody wants it I'll sell it.  It's probably the best Traditions around!

Thompson seems to have a pretty nice warranty program--fixing problems for the life of the gun (although I've never had a reason yet to use the service).  Reading posts on the two Thompson forums here, it sounds like warranty work might take from a couple of weeks to a couple of months depending on the problem.
