The animal rights people are going to thrive on this one.  It looks bad for responsible hunters. I certainly hope that they catch and prosecute whoever is responsible for this offense.

Goose Shot With Steel-Tipped Arrow
The S.P.C.A. needs your help finding out who shot a goose with a steel-tipped arrow on Meadow Spring Lane in East Amherst today.

Vets were able to save the goose after delicate surgery.

“The arrow did go completely through the body. We did have to disassemble the arrow in order to remove it from the goose,” said Beverly Jones from the S.P.C.A.

The arrow did not break any bones, and the steel tip did not tear through any major organs.

When S.P.C.A. investigators found the goose, the arrow was still through the middle of it.

“There are not fractures visible. And we think that if a major organ had been punctured by the arrow entrance, that the goose would not have survived at this point,” added Jones.

Right now, the goose is getting a number of antibiotics and painkillers. ItÂ’s expected to be okay.

If you have any information on who did this, you can call the S.P.C.A. Their phone number is 875-7360.

The phone number for the D.E.C. is 851-7000.

yes it is sad when a person pr persons give legit people a bad name. And as you stated the animal rights people pick up on this and run with it. I also hope they find the guilty party.  you never see a story about a good thing that happens in the woods while hunting.

I saw that on the local news and thought ,how stupid can you be doing this in your backyard ? I do some animal control in that area and geese are a big problem, but one stupid incident like this puts everything us "involved" sportsmen have fought for right in the trash.
