I have a H&R 12ga. persussion shotgun.
I have haveing trouble with misfiring.
I have used different priners and different powders.
Sometimes the cap fires and sometimes it does not.
Suggestions/recommendations?

Check to be sure the hammer is squarely striking the nipple and that the nipple is not worn or rounded over. If in doubt about the nipple replace it, it's cheap. More probably if you are getting inconsistant firing of the percussion cap the hammer is not striking the cap on the nipple hard enough, this can be caused be a hammer that has become bent, caps that are not pushed all the way down onto the nipple (possibly wrong size caps) or possibly (not probable) a weakened hammer spring....<><.... :grin:

Take the lock off the stock and clean it ,,, I had the same problem and found there was gunk on the inside the lock ,,,,, If after changing the nipple and cleaning the lock you still have the problem,,, you may need a new spring in the lock,,,,,,

Took the back of the stock off and cleaned the innereds.
Still have misfiring.
I changed the nipple - same result.
Tried different primers - same result.
When the primer is fired - hit - a second time it goes off.
I"m thinking that the primers are not fully seated.
What type of primers have others had success with?

Maybe you need to tie a tarp strap around your barrel and hook it in your hammer before ea shot. :roll:

Doc, take the nipple off, and make sure you can slip a cap on all the way. It sounds like your cap isn't going all the way on the nipple.

Have you ever dry fired this gun? If the nipple is "mushroomed" the cap won't go all the way on, and you'll have misfires. I had this same problem with my CVA. I replaced the nipple with a stainless one and haven't had any problems since.

If it's not mushroomed, you may have a nick on the nipple that is causing it too. Take some emry cloth and smooth it out until it will go all the way on.

Does your 12ga Huntsman has the slide in breech plug?
If so, there are 2 "O" rings on the combustion end. One is delrin, called a "guard O ring", the other one, closest to the powder is a rubber "O" ring. The rubber "O" ring may be worn out, allowing the breech plug to seat farther away from the firing pin.
Gun Parts Corp. offers the "guard O ring", but not the rubber one. I suspect that you might be able to get the rubber one at a hardware store.

i would check the main spring this gun is getting old and main springs were weak to start with. wolf springs has them in stock . have you cleaned the inside of the action by takeing it apart and removeing the rust//
