The Black Horrors came back !!!

Guess I have come down with something even worse than the affliction called Contenderitis that I have had for nearly 35 years! Now it’s the dreaded Black Horrors again!  :shock:   WAGH!!!

After a near 30-year absence from it (did Rondies and hunted mule deer and elk BP in the Rockies in the early-mid 70's ), I got back into black powder about 6 months ago to add some challenge to my varmint and predator hunting, and its really running amuck. Already have on hand 2 32's, 2 36's, 5 45's, and a 54 frontstuffer (all traditionals), with several round ball and mini/maxi moulds for each, and enough Goex, lead, knives, accouterments, tools, horns and possible bags, and the foofarraw's and gewgaws to outfit a fair sized band of free trappers. But...   I didn't have a 50 caliber - and what mountainman worth his salt would be caught dead without a 50 Hawken? Hell, Hatchet Jack would turn over in his grave, Jeremiah Johnson would disown me and Del Gue would probably scalp me!!!  :oops:   So... enter yet another new toy!

This one is custom built around a T/C Hawken, is mint and with nice wood, both flint and percussion locks, palm rest, custom rod and 3 barrels. The 50 is a browned Green Mountain capper with tang/globe sights, the 36 is also a browned Green Mountain capper that wears a period correct 4X full length brass scope by Navy Arms, and the browned Numrich 45 barrel is a flinter wearing Lyman full buckhorns and has had the frizzen hardened and tuned. The stock is bedded for all barrels, and Doug Everett of Swift River Gun Works in Belchertown, MA had built it for himself. I picked it all up "right", and can hardly wait to turn that scoped 36 loose on the Belding’s at Digger Wars (2 weeks)- try my hand at flint coyotes.

Sorry the picture is not very good, but when the package gets here next week I'll take better ones as soon as I have time.

That's a subject that should not be spoken about to those who do not understand such cravings.  If you do they think you have some sort of disorder when it is they who do not comprehend the significance of such prizes.

It is indeed impossible to explain the affliction to a non believer. The accelerated heart rate, the heightened awareness, the elation, the reaching for the wallet---these symptoms can only be comprehended by the members of the fellowship. Welcome back.

This scope is adjustable for windage and elevation via the bases.   Expect a 4X scope is a 4X scope, so its "useful" range would be at the ranges the 36 will toss galena (RB/Maxi's) with some precision.   Since the diggers we shoot at my annual Digger Wars that I host have a kill area the size of a ping pong ball, the scope will be a big help.   Planning to make certain ranches BP only this year, as well as the normal handgun only ranches.   I am taking 2 32's, 2 36's and a few 45's for those attending DW to shoot who haven't come over to or bought black yet.   Should add a bunch of fun to the weeks activities.   12 days and counting 'til 10 days of total fun!

Yeppers.   Its 32.5" long (on 29" barrels on this rig), but also comes in a 18" model from Navy Arms.    NA wants $210/$200 for their 4X's; DGW $175 for either of their 4's (32.5"/18.5"); but the best deal is Autauga Arms who sells their 6X 32" for $120.

Man oh man I have the same problem. Back in the '70's I was infected by the Black Horrors. They lasted 'til the mid eighties. Along about July of last year they started emereging again. Back then it was a CVA Mouontain Rifle in .50 with the matching belt pistol. A handfull of various single shots and dare I say it a Duckfoot. I thought I was cured after  a stint in the Army getting to shoot all those nice automatic weapons but every once in a while the tremors would surface. (Exp when working with the Arty boys) But I held off until the turn of the century and about 2003 July to be exact a friend got me infected again. Showed up at my house with a .44 1851 Colt. Well that did it . I had the Black horrors again. Now it has started to grow. RB molds, Powder horns and flasks. A New Model Army Remington to go with that Colt. A Traditions Shennendoa .50 caplock. Does it END!? Will we all be infected!!!? It is something like the movie OUTBREAK!!!..................


Now lets see who I can infect now!!!!! :twisted:
