Finally got my 30-30 up and running again. Broke the firing pin on my 357 frame, put that barrel on the 30-30 frame, as I wasn't using the 30-30 barrel I took the scope and rail off it and put them on the 45-70 when I traded for it, finally got another scope and rail, mounted it up, loaded up some of the cast boolits that DJ sent me last year, used 33.6 grains of WC 846 (mil-surp) once I got it on the paper, the first 5 shot group was nearly perfectly arrowhead shaped being 2.5" long and 1.75" tall. Easily covered with the palm of my hand. Certainly not a bragging group, but it is better than ANY cast group I have fired with a middle of the road book load. Lyman manual suggests that this boolit should have been traveling circa 1900 fps. Will chronograph some tomorrow if I can, may have to watch the grandkids. While it is entirely possible that this is as good as it gets, I will certainly continue to put the boolit and the rifle to the test. (Still have to get a firing pin for the 357 frame.)
By the by, Any sugggestions as to a boolit mold for a 30-30 Handi? Any favorites or overall best performers for you guys? Thanks, JP
