will a 1895 straight stock fit a 336?
« on: May 04, 2004, 04:40:08 AM »
I have a 1895 guide gun, and love it.  Does anyone know if the 1895 straight stock will fit on a 336?  I have been looking for a godd used 336, in a .30-30.  If it will fit, can you buy the stock and forend from Marlin?  Do you know what it might cost?  Also, I realize that I would have to change the lever, can you get one after market?  Any input appreciated.

straight grip on Marlin 336

I don't believe the straight-grip stock will fit directly on the pistol-grip 336.

No Marlin 336 handy to compare, but comparing my M1895S pistol grip and the M1895CB straight grip shows the difference in the levers and also the lower receiver tang.  It's slightly curved to match the grip and lever loop.  Just enough difference to show that the two stocks will not directly interchange.

Marlin used to make straight-grip M336 carbines.  IF you can find one of those, it would save you work.

Gun Parts Inc in New York City probably has Marlin stocks, and yes, you can order them from Marlin too.

Many Marlin 1895 and 336 parts can be found here.  Some will fit interchangably with some work, others won't.  You might have to talk to someone at Marlin.

The Marlin 336T had a straight grip.  The trigger guard plate is the part that is either curved or straight and has the lower tang.  So you could do it if you had a Marlin 336 and replaced the butt stock, lever and trigger guard plate with those from a 336T.
You learn something new everyday whether you want to or not.

My 336 in .35 Remington has a pistol grip and I would not change it, I would like a straight stock on it but I have had it so long it is going to stay as it has been all these years. I just saw however if anyone is interested, a straight stock and a forearm for a Marlin 336 which appears to be in great shape. It is listed on e-bay as item #3675987566 and I think they bid is only at about $20.00, for now anyway....<><....
