Howdy Totin'!
There are several of us on these fora who have the 1894SS, I got mine about 18 months ago, and am still in the process of testing loads for it. But while the gun wears a scope right now, once the load testing is over, the scope goes! To me, nothing carries more naturally than an open sighted levergun, or ever will. Some things just can't be improved on!
The only modification I've made to the rifle is the addition of a peep sight, a concession to aging eyes that don't get along with Buckhorn sights. A peep sight, a sling, and a box of ammo, and out the door I go. I have used mine for sniping clay pigeons on a hillside 250 yards across a valley. I don't hit them all that often, but I sure have fun trying! Once I find a good heavy handload it likes, I should do a little better. Mine shoots jacketed stuff very well, but I'm still experimenting with cast loads and Unique, there's gotta be a good load there somewhere!
But the gun gets handled a lot more than it gets shot lately, when I open the safe to admire my beauties, the SS is usually the first one I grab. Traditionalists may prefer blued guns, but to me, this is one truly gorgeous rifle!
