No, not the era, or music! Anybody playing with 50 cals. in any shape or form? Some day I'm going to have one. Just to have a thumper! O.

:grin: Well, It may not be what you expect but I do have a 50 caliber rifle. Probably unique :shock: . I had an extra 44 mag low wall traditional hunter. Had it rechambered and rebored to 50 AE. It will do 2100 fps with 325gr jacketed and 2000fps with 360 gr cast flatnose. With its cresent steel butplate, yoou feel its power :eek:

Alright by me 416. We just want to hear what's going on. The 50AE sounds good. It has struck my curiosity, more than once!! There something about a 50, no matter, how fast it's traveling. Thanks O.

Once I get the funds I'm planning on building up a 500 A Square on a CZ magnum action with a really heavy barrel for playing around with. I'll throat it for using with 50 BMG bullets, and use either those or cast if I can find a mould I like. Should be quite entertaining and nowhere near as pricy to load and shoot as a BMG. Looks like J.D. Jones is doing something similar now with his 50 Peacekeeper. He's got some good pics of it on his web site.

Well now!

I lucked onto a couple of ariginal .50 US Navy Rolling Block Carbine barrels this summer. Inside looks like NEW!

I fitted them up to Remington Rolling Block actions and now have two fine-shooting .50-45 blackpowder carbines! You should see the strange looks I get at the firing range!

Nobade, I seen the 50 peace keeper on SSK's web site, but it didn't say what case is used. Do you know what case is used?

It is the 460 Wby necked straight up. SSK says it has 75% of the 50BMG's power in a liter gun.

outlawsix, That is what I thought it was, I had the same idea about three years ago. I even got a 460 case, expanded it to 50 caliber, and seated a 750 gr bullet into it. It's still sitting on my loading bench. I was thinking of building it on an enfield action, but I got sidetracked on a few other wildcat projects.

Yep, that makes it pretty much the same as a 500 A Square or a 500 Buhmiller. I'd go with the A2 myself, dies are more readily available. Have to get a throatless reamer and a .50 throater to chamber it though, if you want to shoot BMG bullets since the normal 500 A2 throat is too short. But I like to chamber and throat in two seperate operations anyhow.

Nobade, I do the same. I used to try to get the throat right on the chambering reamer, but they were never right. I was fortunate in that they were always short. Now when I get a reamer ground, I just order a short throat on the chambering reamer and buy throat reamer. Then I can get the throat exactly the length I want.
