12ga Tracker 1 is a WINNER
« on: May 06, 2004, 11:24:45 AM »
well not wanting to waste too much time, or pain on the shoulder, i went off to the range with 3 boxes of brenneke 2.75 inch mags. i set her 2 inches high at 50 yards, and she was dead on at 100 yards. of course this was after replacing the rear sight, the one that was on it was rusty on the inside, and did not adjust right, so i pulled one off the wifes 30-30 that has a scope anyway, so she does not need it         and i did. but this thing shoots like a champ. i got to say the old shoulder is a bit sore now. but she is ready to go now, so i dont need to shoot it again until its at my 10 point buck in my sights. (OK wishful Thinking)    but i got to say WHAT a Gun!!!!!!!!!!!! it out shoots my remington 870 deer gun that i have bragged about forever, and this little tracker holds better at 100 yards then it does. now i just want one in 20ga too, anyone got one?????????

Varmint Controller,i live in the shotgun zone here in Michigan.there are used 12ga tracker IIs around all over but my son is looking for a 20ga.not so many of them.the tracker smooth bores are around too but for the same money as the rifled barrels.if we dont find a 20 soon a frame is going in to NEF for a barrel.i think it will be another 20ga ultraslug because of the good luck ive had with mine.maybe i could talk him into paying for a 12 ultraslug barrel on my 10ga turkey gun.that would be cool to have one of each :agree:

VC, What kind of groups are you getting from the smoothie???

I'm going to have to find some of those brenneke slugs and see if they work in my 12 gauge pardner mod barrel.  I've just heard too many good reports of accuracy and improved slug performance over the old rifled foster designed slugs like the winchester's I'm shooting.  A friend of mines son has a 20 gauge 870 youth with mod choke and he's shot 3 does in the last 3 seasons with bennekes and not one deer went over 30 yards.

Hey, how was the recoil with those slugs?  Enough to toss me out of a ladder tree stand?  Enough I should put some weight in the stock?  Primarily I'll be using my ultra slug 20 from a tree stand and use my pardner for stalking and driving.  But if the weather gets bad I might take the pardner to the stand, assuming it's not going to put me on the ground.

later,
scruffy

Scruffy, I use the 12 gauge 1 oz Brennekes in mine because the recoil is so "soft". The 1 1/8th oz slugs from Brenneke in 2 3/4 in magnums are about the same as any Remington,  Federal or Winchester 2 3/4 inch Mag and not unbearable also not fun on the bench. Since the 1 oz 12 gauge Brenneke slug  gets the job done better than a 1 1/8 oz foster style slug (IMHO) and is more accurate, I chose it. From a tree stand where the shoots are close they would be a winner and the one to choose!!!....<><....

Griz...You've got to let me in on some of those deals that you are finding in our area...Of course those are the deals that you do not scarf up first.  Keep me in the back of your mind.  A smoothie would be a cool thing to have.

i am getting about 3 inch groups at 75 yards. give or take ahalf an inch or so. i did not take a tape with me. this barrel is an cyl bore 12ga smoothie, and i got to say the best smoothie i have ever shot. it gets between 4 and 5 inch groups at 100 yards. plenty good for everything i am going to use it on.          now if i could just find a 20ga smoothie like this.
