Is it just me or is this forum becoming dead?  It seems like there are fewer and fewer posts and posters all the time.

I guess all the former MT'ers are too spread out now.

Good question. I have no answer.

There was a lot of flurry and the forum was full of the sound of their fury at Marlin for shutting down the site. Lots of folks registered here and asked for special forums for both Marlin and NEFs and now that they have been given folks have moved on. There is hardly enough action on either to justify separate forums really.

While I don't really visit other sites that often I have looked around a little to see how the newly established Marlin and/or NEF forums fared on some of the ones I know set them up. For the most part like here the folks came and went. To where and why I haven't a clue.

I know its hard for me to sit in from of my computer when its nice outside, especially after the "hard winter" we had up here in the northeast. Maybe the other folks feel the same way I do and after they get use to the nice weather again they'll be back. I hope so, I'd hate to see any forum's get shut down!!!

Mauser - I've got to agree with New York Hunter, it's just too nice outside!  :-D Also, even though I scan the forums daily I don't usualy post replies for subjects that are asked again and again. If I don't have something different or useful to add, I just skip over it instead of wasting space!  :-) CEJ..

Trust me, if my pick-up wasn't in the shop for a few days getting a new engine put in, I wouldn't be here either!!!  *smiles*

I have been productive though.  I even reloaded 900 (and casted) rounds of .45 ACP. So if I seem to not be around soon, you'll know exactly why!

Also, the Colorado State IDPA Championship is THIS Saturday.  Woooohooo.

With all due respect Mr. GB, you have been a wonderful host to we D.P.'s from the old NEF/Marlin site but I don't really see this section of your wonderful site to be slow, especially when you look at it as compared to other sites. I also check the other sites occasionally as you do, this is by far the busiest and has become my "home site". I did a quick calculation on the hits on the NEF/Marlin section and came up with a total of 11,598 views and 1,479 posts. Respectable and then some for numbers alone. Almost 12,000 views in a few short months is great!!! the numbers broke down to 956 posts and 7,431 views on the NEF side and 459 posts and 3,877 view on the Marlin side. Totals for both with the included NEF/Marlin outdoor experiences and NEF/Marlin support are the stated 1,479 and 11,598. Good numbers when compared to others....Thanks for the opportunity to be here....<><.... (as a comparison Marlintalk had 35 posts in the NEF section and Shotgunworld had 55 posts in the NEF section, I don't go to the AR site anymore so don't know thier numbers but I am sure they are not anywhere near ours here...our numbers are up there and you Mr. GB, are the leader))

To some extent I agree. Seems that the demise of MT caused a huge influx of folks looking for a "home" to land at, but a nuber of different forums tried to accomodate these orphans, thus they caused us to spread around.
The old MT site was extremely active on all threads, and posts reached numbers that most sites might get viewings at! I was a member here, long before MT shut down, and enjoyed both sites for different reasons. I liked Greybeards for the variety, and MT for the Marlin only format. As a Marlin/single shot collector, I got a lot of good info from both sites.
Please don't anyone take this the wrong way, but the Marlin info is in short supply here. Seems to be a lot more of the idle chat, with out the solid educational/historical value I enjoyed at MT.
I have found a number of the old group has migrated to www.marlinowners.com and it seems to be surviving, although it too does not get the hits that the old MT site got.
I hope this site continues to do well, as I enjoy other parts of it, regardless of whether it has a Marlin format or not.

A lot of folks registered here and found out they did not want to be moderated or thought we were too strict. In some cases it may have been my fault as I did not want to see the arguements that happened at MT. Yea I know I was in some of them also but some of the members there made it so easy to respond in kind.    That I did not want to see here and so them folks migrated to Marlin owners and that is fine glad they found a home that suits them. I still wonder where Dali went since a lot of folks were on his butt for too many postings which I still do not get as who cares??? Evidently some did though and we lost a few for that reason also. Oh well cannot please every one and GB this site still has a lot more traffic than some sites I belong to or have seen. Jim

Well.....I look at it this way.  GB has a great BBS going.  Just about anything you want to know or discuss can be addressed here.  The variety is incredible.  All my interests are represented here in some way, shape, or forum (pun intended).

I do visit Marlinowners and post there as well.  This is simply because some of my favorite folks have gravitated over there.  They're an ornery bunch indeed, but somebody's gotta love em'.

I made literally thousands of posts on the old "Marlin Talk," but honestly, I never have been a serious "Marlin" person - although I did enjoy my two Marlin rifles.  I wound up selling my 1895GS to some attorney in Alabama for $1100.00 before the temporary move to taxachusetts.  I think I've got the most for an 1895 that anyone has ever gotten.  hehe

Now all I've got is an old Marlin/Glenfield Model 60.  Oh well, I've always been a pistol guy anyways.  I'm here more for the top notch company I can keep than anything else.

All you guys have valid points however there is one more I would like to add. Since coming to this site I have posted more than I ever did at the old NEF/Marlin site and I did post on both sides and have a couple at least of each gun. Since coming aboard here I find my posts are a bit more scattered. In addition to the NEF and Marlin sections, I also post on the rimfire section, lever section, singleshot rifle section, medium bore section and possibly a few more. It may be that others also are spreading around with the wonderful selection we have here. This is not a cop-out, I still think our post and view numbers at the NEF/Marlin section rivals any here for the time here. The people that haunt this site, as well as the fact that the  NEF/Marlin site is separate, the quality of posts and the lessened amount of trash, bickering and B.S. from certain posters that were evident on the old site, and at least one of the other current rival sites, is what makes this forum so great....<><....

First of all I would like to say thanks to Greybeard for a wonderful selection of forums. I too find myself wandering around these sights. A lot of times I am just looking and gleaning information so sometimes I don't post a lot. Like Jim said some people just don't like a moderated site but GB's don't have all the mudslinging going on like there are on some others. We don't have the troll problems that some do either. Also the nice weather I think has most of us outside if possible. I know I'm not on the puter near as much as when the weather is cold and nasty but I still have to have my daily fix of GB's. There are a great bunch of people on all these sites and they all seem to get along real good and are always willing to help a fellow shooter out. :toast:    :D  :-D

Yup I agree, NEF guys are far more active than the Marlin guys here. I think more of you came here and I assume more of you here than elsewhere.

My comments weren't intended to make you think I plan to close down either your or the Marlin forums any time soon. Just commenting that the traffic has dropped way back from what it was when the Marlin site first shut down. I have noticed some sites that just didn't get many after making an effort to grab the folks have already removed the new forums they set up.

I really very seldom even drop in on the Marlin or NEF forums here anymore as you've been around long enough to get used to how things are run and you've got moderators to help if needed and I have you a seperate forum just to ask me questions if you need to and I do watch it. My personal interests lie elsewhere so I will seldom drop in here but I will from time to time.

For sure my time on the computer is limited as I have way too much needing done out doors right now. But at this time I'm on restricted use of my legs and so have way more computer time on my hands than normal so checked in here.

I don't know where all the other guys are anymore. I use some of the other sites off and on and see some of there names there. After the break-up of "that other site" I think we all kinda wandered around for a month or two before finding a place to call home. Some came here and some went to other sites and some I have never found. I call GB's my home as I always come here first and look around. With all the categories there are here there is lots of info to be found. I have noticed that some of the other sites are slow too so it is just not GB's that has slowed down. :-)  :D

I gotta tell ya, I'm on this sight (Graybeard Outdoors-all forum's) "at least" twice a day! Before I go to work (3pm) and when I get home (11pm). I "post" on this sight just about "everyday". There's one other sight I check in on at least "once" a day. I "post" there maybe "once" a week. There's one sight that I check out "once" every few "weeks", I'm not gonna stop looking at the "other" two sights. But this is the "BEST FIREARMS RELATED" sight out there as far as I'm concerned! :-D
The other two sights aren't moderated. One of them can get real bad. All you have to do is disagree with a few of the people over there, and you would have thought you killed someone. Every now and then we have disagreements here, but the language doesn't get bad at all. I think this sight as a whole is better then the "old Marlin talk". I do miss some of the people! There doesn't seem to be the "dedicated Marlin talk", but I mostly stayed on the "Misc forum" anyways. On this sight I go to this forum, deer hunting, beer hunting, boar hunting, Glock, Pistols for concealed carry and self defense, ATV, Truck, the Hunting in New York forum's and a few more!

I visit here quite regular, but don't post a lot.  There doesn't seem to be much going on at any site nowadays.

Don't know if it's apathy, or people just don't want to communicate any more.

It's certainly not the same now.

Many thanks for a place to come after the unfortunate demise of Marlin Talk. I didn't post much over there. Considering how long I had been there. Don't have much use for "me too" posts.

The idea, in my mind, is to exchange information not insults and have fun doing so. I find it more than strange that some who complained the loudest about the moderation on this site. Have fallen silent on other unmoderated sites.

This is a good place to be.

Hey-Greybeards is a good sight for info.I have been here quite a while just after I joined  Marlin Talk.Marlin Talk was a bunch of guys somewhat like Accurate Arms sight with a fight a day and everyone watched and looked. Now things are different and for the most part you have to be a good boy without your honest opinion, and theres noithing wrong with that.So many forums opened up to Marlin refugies, there scattered around all over, and some forums took us better than others.

Greybeard will always be here.Heck,he's as old as the hills and as honery but thats what its about.Experience from the old guys.

You old rascal. Calling Graybeard "honery".  I can't tell whether you are calling him "horny" , or are you calling him "ornery"? Or do you mean both?

You better not forget  this site is moderated!

I believe the main reason is because of the summer weather for us folks in the North.
The same thing has happened on my "My Family" web site. Much of my family was on heavy during the winter, but they're out doing things when the nice weather arrives.
I probably post here MORE in total than I did on MT. They had about 8 to 12 categories to post on, while Graybeard has many more ( I counted 138), so our posts are more spread out.
I don't mind the moderating....thoughts or opinions don't seem to be moderated out much, but crude language is.
