22 mag velocity out of a 10 inch barrel?
« on: December 22, 2002, 07:41:14 PM »
I have a Savage Striker Sport in 22 mag with a 10 inch barrel. Does anyone have any idea of what average velocity I can expect to to get out of a 10 inch barrel? I do not have access to a chronograph so I do not know what to expect. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Jim.  I can't tell you what the velocity would be from a 10" bbl, however I have (It's in the closet somewhere but I would have to move so much stuff!) a .22 book that I have kept for years.  I remember a test pretaining to bbl length.  The .22 mag reached its maximum potential in a 12" bbl.  From that point on it only gained a minimal amount for each inch of bbl length.  So from that test, your 10" bbl should be very efficient.  I have always enjoyed the .22 mag, usually in a 10" contender.  don't worry about it, just take it out and enjoy it!   Stay safe.   44 man

Thanks 44 man after Christmas it became a moot point as I traded it for a Henry 22 Mag Lever action + a bit of cash. The striker would have been a good Idea if it would have had a trigger as good as a Encore or Contender!!! I have an Encore 308 and it is fantastic have taken 2 deer so far and would use it for Varminting If given the chance. The Striker had a crappy and I mean Crappy trigger I think every time I shot it I would pull off because of the trigger it was fair sandbagging it but hunting I could not hit a squirrel for the life of me I tried for 2 years. So now I have a Henry Lever action in 22 Mag and it is great. THe first time I shot it to sight in the scope I shot a 3shot 5/16 inch group at 25 yards using PMC Preditor ammo I think the Remington V max would have done better yet but I only had w sheels left from a previous fireing using the Savage. So now the question is moot but thanks for the reply anyway. I am the moderator for the Rifle 22 Rimfire  section so stop on by. Jim
