Can someone please tell me the benefits of using LDPE wads over card or veggie?

I've found LDPE wads to be slightly better in side by side comparisons with gasket or veggie wads (10shot groups) but the difference was small (less than .75" at 200m). I feel the advantage that LDPE has is its ability to accept the initial "bang" protecting the base of the bullet and its ability to expand under pressure limiting blow-by. Some shooters are happy with wads cut from plastic coated playing cards and others with wax paper wads so clearly you must experiment and find out what combination works for you. I normally use .060 LDPE wads in my 45-70 & 45-90 and .030 LDPE wads in my 40-65 & 38-55. Rbump

I cut my LDPE wads from big ( 20 or 30 qt.)plastic containers you get from KMart or Wally world for about $ 4.You will get many 1000's of wads from them.I use a press mounted punch from BA.
They cut a good tight fitting wad.
I can see a improvement in groups.I haven't found any blowby in bullet bases recovered from snow banks.

As RPbump says, youll need to experiment in this arena to determine what will work & what will work the best.

On caveat though. Some shooters have experienced case separations in perfectly good brass or brass that hasnt been shot much when using wads.

The current thinking is that an oversized wad will stick or drag along any BP residue, stretching the brass , & eventually causing a separation.

Who knows whether this is true or not; however, it does make some sense.

Just something else to keep in mind or fret about.
