Bullet size vs. bore size.

Way back in August 340WBY advised getting a mold that drops a bullet about .002" over bore size.  It seems to me that Veral Smith, in his book, advised using a bullet as close to bore size as possible and then having the cylinder holes opened up to .001" over bore.  What's the correct formula?

Sounds like you're confusing rifle loading and revolver loading. They are 2 different techniques. I've only been reloading for about 47 years and casting for only 38 years and so far I've learned that a rifle bullet that is .0005" to .0020" over bore diameter will generally give best results. Each rifle will dictate what works best and only trial and error will determine the optimum combinations. When you get it all right 1" groups are realistic. The fun of shooting lead bullets is the fact that loading and shooting them is so entirely different that loading jacketed cartridges. Rich P
