Hi Omega,

Does the hide on Sandi's bear look as good in person as it does in the pictures?

SST's or Shockwaves, 250 or 300 gr. ???? (guessing .50 cal here).

The picture doesn't do it justice. across the back it is as close a honey blond I've ever seen in a mature boar. The video shows the colors a lot better. At one point it walks right under her tree stand and is about 20 feet from her, makes for some spectacular footage!
50 cal, 250 grain SST's, 150 grains of Pyro pellets. Both bears were heart shot through the front leg. Sandi's goes down so hard it bounces (show off!) and mine makes two big gallops before piling up, about 15 yards total including tumbling and skidding. Mine scores well into Long Hunter and Sandi's would have except it is missing most of the left cheek bone, looks to be a survivor of a childhood run in with a boar. Here in Alberta mature boars are the number 1 cause of cub mortality.
My bear was almost healed from some very gruesome tooth/claw injuries to its back and left flank. Something very big nearly punched this guys ticket last year!

I shot mine from a ground blind and used the bipod, Sandi shot hers from the tree stand and free handed it. Is there any wonder I listen when she speaks?!?

The Aetec are a great scope for the money! I love that one. The 4200 Elite on Sandi's Omega is a lot more scope with much better clarity but then it should be more scope as it is more money! :)

Something like humans in Chicago? Sorry.

How do you normally score Alberta bears? Length, skull size, "squared hide," or ???

We score by skull size (Length + width) same as B&C. Long Hunter Society record book is the keeper of the North American big game records for muzzleloaders and is based I believe in MI. My bear was 7' nose to tail, right at 400 pounds and the skull green scored at 18 6/8"

Rich,

Well-- congratulations. Sandi gets the "pretty award," like pretty much always.  Her bear sure looks gorgeous. In Manitoba next month for black bear, but I don't think larger bears are really probable. Still, I guess they all look big enough-- when they climb the same tree that you are in!

Manitoba does have good bear they are just further north and harder to get to.
I've done the bear up the tree thing before, but not with a camera there or a single shot ml!

beg to differ on harder to get to! some of the best bear hunting is less than 2 hrs from winnipeg. and that 900+ bear hit by a car a couple years ago was 1 1/2 hrs north of the city. bears seem to like the farmland alot; probably easy pickins for food!! Don't get me wrong omega, alberta has good bear as well...... GO FLAMES GO!!!!!!!!
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!
