Help with Cheek weld on Contender
« on: May 15, 2004, 05:57:44 AM »
Hello,
I purchased a factory synthetic stock and carbine barrel to set a contender up as a lightweight packable hunting rifle for backpacking. The cheekweld with the scoped barrel is horrible...more like a chin weld. Do you guys have any ideas on how to improve this? Is the cheekwld on a factory G2 good? or any better than the contender?
Thanks in advance, Kirk

What about a lower ring and base combination to lower the eye level of the scope?

I think the company is Beartooth, and they make a rubber tube that fits over the stock and has different size foam inserts to raise you cheek on the stock.  I have one of those on a Remington 1100 Magnum that I use for turkey with a really high mount.

If you care to spend the money talk to Troy at Bullberry. He makes up a buttstock for a Contender carbine that eliminates that poor positioning and looks beautiful. Cost me about $150 but it was worth every dime.
