Clearance for hammer spur
« on: May 14, 2004, 03:51:14 AM »
After mounting my new scope (ultra 243) I noticed that I do not have allot of clearance between the hammer spur about 1/8" it seems that the rear objective is larger that the previous. Is that enough clearance or should I get taller rings?

That 1/8th inch will be enough, the steel in the hammer spur is not going to stretch that much at impact with the firing pin. that is, as long as you have that clearance with the hammer extension on. You will need a hammer extension with that amount of clearance anyway....<><....

On my 45-70 barrel I have a WEaver 6X scope that has waaaay less than an 1/8" clearance.  You should be fine with that much clearance.

If I have 1/8 inch I happy I would rather just 1/8 in, Some I have have 1/4. Aslong as the hammer does not bump or scrap scope all is well.
 My thoughts Marv.
