SPOTTING SCOPES

Time for me to upgrade - part with another arm and a leg. Lets see, straight or 45 .................. manufacture, good enough or go the Full-Monty
... can't find any free ones - Weaver has a Classic 15-40x60 that's interesting .... many others as well .. prices sure have gone up from 40 years ago - LOL.

Rip, I have a couple of Weaver riflescopes that I really like.  They are bright and clear, and they didn't cost an arm and a leg.  I don't see why that same quality wouldn't be found in their spotting scopes.  

That being said, my spotting scope is actually a Buris 15-45X60.  It works really well, but the only thing I will say is to make sure you get a good high quality tripod for it.  The POS that came with mine isn't good for anything.

WISCOTT:  Thanks for the quick reply ........... that Burris sounds great, and I'm allso looking at the Weaver, looking for best prices - their all a lot of chips.

You might try ebay, I've picked up a few there to take to gun shows. I use a little Burris spotting  from Midway, They had them on sale with a
3/9 var.rifle for 199.99 for the pair. Where i shoot it's only a 100 yd range so the little spotting scope works just fine, I've tried it on every thing from my 17 Rem to my 416 Rem. mag. hope this helps.

Well ...................... I ordered a Weaver Classic 15-40X60 .. $299 beans / thinkomg it will be better than the ones I found for less. Specs and write-up's were good. I believe it's a new model ( Couldn't find any reviews ....
so I'll be writing one. Case abd tri-pod came with it for that price. My old one is a 20X50 and was always close to lame at 100 .. would be with 22 cal. I'm printing yellow targets, easier to see but there will be other targets.

oso45-70:  I looked things over and over, tried to keep cost down. I'll be shooting lots of 100, but some 200 and over. That's why I need greater than 20 power and an X60 ( 15-40X60 in what I think will be a nice spotting scope. That $299 was less than other prices found on that scope.
I'm going to shoot more now and fish a little less ( Which will still be a lot - LOL ). These last years, I've been an Ice Fishing nut ....

I had a 45-70 Single Shot Browning ... loved the thing.

Rip, if I may make one more suggestion.....

Get a good camera tripod for your new spotting scope.  You'll probably have to get an adapter to mount it on the camera tripod, but you won't regret it.  The tripods that they send with the new scopes are trash.  At least the one I got with my Burris was.

YES, by all means get the best tripod you can, It will make all the difference in the world, The ones that come with the scopes are JUNK.
I use one that will go from about 14" to approx 32" and it works real good.
It costs a lot more but you get a lot more, and yes it is for a camera.
