Encore Barrel Question
« on: May 16, 2004, 03:35:35 PM »
I am debating the idea of buying an encore 209X50 barrel for the upcoming season. Can I mount a scope on the barrel with quick release rings and still use the open sights or will the scope base interfere?

I have mine with a Weaver base and it's lower enough to use stock fiber optic sights.  I have a set of standard height B-Square Weaver style rings and the synthetic stock comb is the right height to use both for me.

I guess someone could use a set of see thru rings, but I suspect that may be too high.

Thanks guys!! That is just what I was hoping. I need to check the regs in Alabama and Louisiana. I think La allows scopes and Al doesn't.

Louisiana does allow scopes.  I don't know about Alabama.  BTW, I'm a "La Southpaw" also.  Where abouts are you located.

Thats what I just did, got a new never fired SS 209X50 Encore barrel off Ebay for $209+shipping and saved $50.

Randy, what scope base did you put on your .50 Encore barrel?  I have Warne Maxima rings on the 3X9 Leupold VXII would the Warne scope base be better than the TC base.  It costs more, for sure, guess thats the price of steel vs aluminum.

The Thompson / Warne steel base. Steel beats aluminum every time, as far as I'm concerned.
