I've owned many mil-surp guns over the years, but this week I traded for my first SKS. It is an ugly beast! Mine is Romanian 1958 with the clunkiest red (fiberglass?) stock I have ever seen. This thing is split down the middle and glued into place like a clam shell. If it had not been thrown into the trade for "boot" I wouldn't have touched it.  I also got two boxes of Wolf ammo with the gun so I figured I might as well clean it up and see if it shoots. WOW I want another one! I went through 40 rds in about 5 mins and had a blast. It will shoot about a 6" group at 100 yards and the trigger pull is terrible. But it does shoot, and shoot, and shoot. Guess I've got the bug again .

I have a Yugo SKS with the grenade launcher in absolute mint condition that I bought 2 years ago. Next is either a Russian or Chinese SKS.... 8)

Ya they are fun guns. I've got two norinkos and a yugo. I like how cheap they are to accesorize. You slap some after market parts on them and they can look pretty cool. One of my norinkos has tons of after market parts on it.
1. Druganov stock
2. Flash suppressor/muzzle break
3. new gas tube with metal cooling cover
4. Detachable 10,20,30, and 40 round mags
5. shell deflector
6. new receiver cover with base attached
7. 6-24x40 elite 4200 (overkill but I wasn't using it)
8. milled trigger group
9. recoil pad
10. shell holder on butt stock
11. Bipod
12. I have a laser on order should get it sometime this week.

My other norinco I put the ramline stock on it, flashsupressor and holosight. this one is my favorite to shoot.

Nice find the Romanian sks is hard to comeby they are rare.   The Romanians are a good quality sks with a chromelined barrel too.  So many pass up sks's and their missing out on some great plinking fun!!  Plus their cheap to feed too.   At AIM SURPLUS there is some great buys on 7.62x39 ammo right now too.                              BigBill

I believe we have to watch what we change on C&R guns because it does change the C&R status.  And i don't think its legal on guns purchased after '94 to take out the fixed mag and add the larger detachable mags. What you do is your own business but big brother does read posts on the net I'm sure.

You Are Correct!

Especially in this day in age, Almost all internet traffic can and is being monitored. Traffic is checked against a database of Key-Words.
If a key-word is found, the entire message is then searched for other
words or phrases. No one is anonymous on the net. no matter what
encryption/spoofing software you have, you can still be traced.
It is my advise to you to be very cautious on what information you send
out over the Internet. My system has been monitoring this site
and many others for well over a year. fortunately I am still a believer
in our Constitution and the rights it contains. But understand that
some of my associates are not as adamant about it as I am.

Also, I must state that some of the advice given on some of the FORUMS of this site is VERY BAD ADVICE from a Legal standpoint. Do not take what you are told as law, Research it for yourselves to be sure.

SKORPION ,
You wouldn't happen to be SkorpionKTX would you?

If so, my system has already bumped heads
with you a couple of times already! I too work in Information
Technology and am quite aware of how to defend my
anonymity and security on the net.
So give it up!

If Not I  hope you have a nice browse on what is normally
a pretty informative site!

Not me.
ScorpionKTX is a Hacker ---- a well known one I might add ---
Key in his name/handle in your browser as a search, his exploits are quite well documented. If your security kept him out you have a secure system indeed!

Well, those Romanians are getting scarce as hen's teeth down here - only a few years back, we'd see tables full at the local gunshows.  Got my Norinco and Yugo, but I delayed on the Romy, and now they're gone.  Rarely, we might see a really dogged-out Romy - I may have to look closer at one next time.  One of my range buddies recently bought a rusty and pitted Russian SKS in a decent laminated stock - $50 out the door!  I passed on it the day before for $100 - the seller reduced it when they couldn't get the removed magazine to lock back in.  It turned out to be a good shooter, and he uses it as his "truck gun" now.   :?

That red fiberglass stock - weren't they supposed to be Vietcong "jungle stocks"?  Can any Vietnam Vets remember seeing them in use over there?

I picked up three Yugo M59's from Century they were ufixem's and they all had their safety levers broke.   They all cleaned up ok two have the barrels slightly pitted but will still shoot great there not that bad its hardley noticable.   One is in very good condition all of then were $69  each If I remember correctly.  I was able to find 4 nice romanian sks's still reasonably priced too.  The guy had 5 but I stopped at 4 of them.   I picked up three "like new" 59/66 yugo sks's($149) a while back then the guy also had a special on a "darkbore"  sks which turned out to be a brand new unshot 59/66($79) the bore was dark from the bluing.

Wether we just collect or collect and shoot I find myself doing both at times we can never have too much of a good thing!!!  Its funny no matter how many of the same or similair rifles I have I still find myself shooting the first one I bought and some have been cleaned, inspected, lubed and just put away in the safe.                                            BigBill
