Milder load for .308 Win
« on: May 24, 2004, 03:17:12 AM »
I am working on customizing a .308 Rem model 7 action, laminate stock. The finished rifle will be under 6 lbs. I am looking for an accurate load that will give me around 24-2500 fps with a 150 gr ballistic in the 20" barrel. Thanks Guys  :D

Try IMR 4895. It works great down to about 65% of max and will get you where you want to be.

I know it's not quite what you're looking for in bullet weight, but here's the combo that my dad started my brother and I on with a .308 so we didn't flinch, it makes it about the equal of a .30-30 or so.
125 gr. Nosler BT
47 gr. IMR 4831
Rem. 9 1/2 primer.

This load has accounted for more deer than I care to talk about, I moved on to faster loads as I got older, but my brother doesn't reload, he just wants to shoot and he doesn't want his load messed with, he kills at least one muley and one whitetail every fall with it, he loves it and the 125 gr. BT holds together great at this velocity.  Hope this helps.

Try the lighter loads of Accurate 2495.  Haven't tried the 308, but it worked great downloading a friend's 30-06 to a 300 Savage for his boy.  Very accurate too.
