Who is still shooting one of these rifles? What are you doing for brass?

I almost bought one a while back because the Shultz & Larsen rifle the guy had was really a thing of beauty. But the guy and I couldn't come to terms as far as a price goes. The 7x61mm Sharpe & Hart cartridge doesn't give up much to the 7mm Remington Magnum. Data is very close. Brass can be made easily from any of the belted cases like the mentioned 7mm Rem. Mag., .338 Win. Mag., etc.. Conley Precision Cartridge manufactures ammo for the 7x61 Sharpe & Hart and you can go to http://www.cpcartridge.com/7mmS&H-P.htm to see what they have. Lawdog: Thanks for the reply. I see 7X61 SH data in both the Sierra and Hornady manuals. I'm just wondering if anyone else has formed the brass simply by running 7 mag brass into a trim die. The easy way out of this is just to have a smith kiss the chamber with a 7 mag reamer, but I want something a little out of the ordinary, so would like to leave it in the SH chambering.

Forget the easy way and leave it as is. A little push into the sizing die with 7mm RM brass and trim the excess and you're in business. To me that is the easy way. Keep her as she is. Lawdog

Lawdog, I'm with you. I just ordered a set of Hornady 7X61 SH dies from Midway, and some 7mm Rem. Mag. brass and 162-grain A-Max bullets. We'll see how she does at 600 yards ....

I don't know what kind of rifle you have, but make SURE you check to insure the rifle has "freebore".

Most rifles bored for the 7x61mm Sharpe & Hart cartridge produce very high velocities compared to other magnum calibers, but at least some of that "high velocity" is due to the 7x61 S&H rifles being FREEBORED.

If your rifle is NOT "freebored", then do NOT attempt to load rounds all the way up to "maximum" loads.

If you're not sure if your rifle is freebored or not, have a good gunsmith check your rifle to find out. Better "safe" than "sorry". :-)
