Are there 6BR silhouette shooters out there? If so, what bullets do you use for the close animals and the Rams??

I've found some very interesting results with my 6BR and was wanting to confirm I'm not totally nuts.

A few years back I worked on the 6BR for silhouette.  The rifle was built on an XP-100 action with a 26", 8-twist barrel.  With 28 grains of N135 the 95-grain Berger VLD's were shooting way tighter than 1/4 MOA with a MV of about 2,800 fps.  That had to be the best out-to-turkey rifle out there.  But, cry at rams.  The toughest bullet I found was the 105 Lapua Scenar.  With 32 grains of N150 the 105's were going about 3,000 fps.  On a well setup range you can expect to ring about 25% of the rams hit.  If there is a headwind holding up the rams or they are bent or the stands not up to snuff there could be a lot of crying going on at the ram line.

Dan's got it.  most of us played that 6mm/.243 game a few years ago.  most of us that did are now shooting some kind of 6.5mm variant.  too many lost animals with the 6mm.  accurate but not quite enough energy at rams.

I've heard over the front leg, others say middle of the body, some say low on the body...

I've only shot my 6BR at one silhouette range (Rosebud) and I was thinking of using it in the next shoot. I could take rams with AMAX 105's pretty well. 95Gr. Bergers didn't work for front shoulder shots, 105's Bergers didn't either.

I guess I can't say I wasn't told about the lost Rams I'll possibly have... a buddy has commented there are tougher ranges to knock down Rams at than this range.

I was using the 108.5 hammits with around 46 grs of RL-22. It worked pretty good. I ran out of them or they quit making them and started using the 106 gr Hammit ( which i still have a lot of) with 46 grs. of RL-22. I still Left some rams with both bullets. The main thing i found is not to go too fast. I would watch the spot on the ram. Try to keep it small. I was shooting a 6mm, sure was fun to shoot.

Took 5 out of 5 hit rams.

We had strong wind (20MPH gusts) and rain blowing directly in our faces.

I'm doing things a little different than what has been posted above as tried before.

105Gr. AMAX, 30Gr. Varget, 22" barrel - muzzle velocity of 2750fps. I had a couple really low in the body hits that tipped backwards into the wind. I do believe the rams are a little easier to tip at our range than others, but I was pretty happy with my results.

Another fella with his 7br rang 2 rams with 150gr sierras.

One 260 shooter rang two pigs, I rang 1 pig with my 6.5X55 on a cheek shot! With my 6br I shot 87Gr. Hornady HPBT and didn't loose any pigs that I hit...
