45 acp primer size?
« on: June 01, 2004, 12:43:48 PM »
Have two custom 45 acp's. Bought 1000 cases a week ago an was having problems with my LEE progressive, after about 45 minutes of screwing around I noticed there are Winchester NT cases with a small primer pocket? Granted it's been a while since I've bought cases but when did they start making small pistol cases for the ACP? Thanks for any information.

It's the "low lead emission" primer that is starting to show up. Winchester says not to reload these cases but I defied their advise and loaded up some with small pistol primers. Couldn't see any difference in performance.

It is a good idea to separate your brass. Trying to cram a LP in a SP hole doesn't work.

The Winchester NT are exceptional, and are among the cases I discard because they cannot be reloaded with published load data because of the primer size.  Winchester WLP primers and CCI 300 primers are typical primers for normal 45ACP brass.

By the way, if you bought those cases new, you should get a refund and get standard 45ACP brass instead.

Beware of double charges with that Lee progressive. Visually inspect each charge.

I bought 1000 once fired, there are 60 or so of the small pistol. Thanks for the information.
