Tasco's aren't all that bad
« Reply #30 on: February 19, 2004, 02:11:20 PM »
   My modified 10/22 has a re-worked Tasco 3-12X40WA atop it.  It was sent in and has Mil-Dot reticle, and was set to be parallax free at 75 yards. More importantly it sets inside a set of Leupold Steel rings and has been as bullet proof an installation as I have ever had on any rimfire.
I also have a Marlin 15YN that I have reworked into a kids BR Rifle. It has a 4X40WA that I have set up parallax free at 50 yards myself.  Information was found on another forum for this DIY project.  Knock on wood, but it has given me no problems to date....Oh yeah. Did I mention that it has been on the rifle for better than ten years!

Remington 541-S    Leupold 6x compact AO
Ruger 10/22           Bushnell Lite-Site 1.5-6
Taurus 63               Redfield 3-9 Widefield

Last one is new and haven't been out to shoot it yet.  Remington 541-s is the old standby squirrel rifle but that scope is the only one like it that I have ever seen.

I decided to go for an off the wall brand, and ended up with the Bass pro shop special, A Redhead 6-18x50 with AO for no paralex issues. It was $99.00 and so far it is just as good as my Swift 6-18x44, for half the price. I got it for my .22 magnum Varmint rifle and it shoots a large hole at fifty yards. Around .789" @ 100.
I'm going to purchase the Redhead 4-12x40 for my CZ 452varmint. (when I buy it).

Well my Henry 22 mag was wearing a M8 4x Leopold and will wear it when I get it back from the company I decided to send it in as it is not clear and cannot be adjusted for clarity. It will sight in but it is not clear. I bought it used at a rummage sale for 30 bucks so I suppose that is why he sold it even though he knew about the warranty. He must have not wanted to mess with it. I will as leopold has a life time warranty for any one who owns one no matter if you bought it used or new. Good warranty I have to say that. I will send it in tomorrow or the next day as soon as they reply to my email. I hope they do not take too long as spring is coming. :) Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Weatherby,

Depending on the use I put it to, a lot of different scopes are on my .22's.  For BR-50 a Leupold BR-24 1/8 min dot.  Squirrel gun a Leupold M8 6x AO compact, heavy gun Br-50 Weaver 6.5x20x40, Contender carbine Simmonds 4x16x40, Marlin M60 Redfield 4x 3/4 inch tube, indoor target a Simmonds 4x12x50for brightness.  By all means get a scope with a Adjustable Objective, to see why put your rifle on a rest and aim at a target close lets say 25 yards away and without moving the rifle move your haed around and watch what happens to the crosshairs.
I also like Burris Signature Zee rings for Weaver type mounts, the signature adjustable feature was the only way to get enough elevation for 100 yard group shooting with the Weaver scope on a BSA M12/15.  My only experiences with scope warrenties are with Leupold and Blount (Simmonds and Weaver) both were outstanding.

Gottum a Leupold Vari X III 2.5-8x 36 on mine, with parallax reset to 50 yards by Leupold.  Could stand an AO scope, but I sure do hate to spend even more money changing, guess I'll keep what I have.  Only time the parallax issue really bothers me is shooting target competition at 25 yards, at 50 no prob., and no issues when hunting either, works great for that.

:D Hey there rimfire shooters,

Well the opinions do very, so may as well throw in my 2 cents worth.

On the junker TC "classic" which I was finally able to dump, I had an equally bad Trashco 4x12 A.O.

Making up my mind to not be involved with such junk again, I ordered a Leupold 3x9 EFR for my new Clark Custom/Ruger 77/22.

As soon as time and weather allow here in Ol'Ideeehoo, I plan to really ring out the combination. However, at this point and with limited bench time I am very impressed with both of the major parts of this new package. the Clark/Ruger IS everything the "classic" wasn't and the Leupold is likewise everything the Trashco wasn't.

I was able to shoot only about 90 - 100 feet because of the snow, but the 3x9 QUICKLY focused on the target using the A.O. and when focused the paralax just went away!

Oh yes, before I froze out, the CRuger put 10 Fed. match loads into just a touch over 1/4".

A lot more on this subject later, after I have had time to shoot the 20 different 22 loads I presently have on stock.

Keep em coming!

I have lost my patience with the damn Tasco 4X40 WC  i have on my Brno model 2. Got it back from Tasco for the second time and its just as bad as when i sent it! Just want to know what everyone else is running on their 22s. I have a spare Leupold VX1 3-9x40 but dont know what it would be like strapped to a little Rimfire! Cheers..
Mick :D

My competition ones all have Leupold 6.5x20 EFR's with two converted to 18x40 EFR's by Premier and I have one with a 3x9 Redfield.

I bought a Tasco world class 2-7X scope for my ruger 300 Win Mag back in 1990.  I upgraded the scope on that gun to a 2.5-8X Leupold VXIII several years ago.  The Tasco now is on my Remington 581.

I also have a BRNO- cut the barrel to 16 1/2''[a bit louder but even more accurate]I have a fixed 4x bushnell on it and it works just fine. I use it mainly for hunting at ranges up to 40 yards, just regular ammunition [ not the hot stuff]and I practice by shooting bottle caps .

Bushnell 3X9 Airgun scopes with AO and  target turrets. Mounted on two 10/22s - one a DSP stock with sporter barrel and the other a Fajen Thumbhole stock with a .920X18 barrel. I use Leupold bases with Burris rings. Scopes have good optics and look good on the guns.
