On Layaway......M44

It spoke to me.... Buy me, put a few hundred rounds thru me. You won't be sorry. The "me" in question is a doggy (good condition) Hungarian M44 with a dark bore and an equally dark stock complete with someone's initials carved (in russian alphabet no less). I put it on layaway at a local gun/SCUBA shop (yes you read that right). I hope it shoots to its promise when it get it to the range.

I always go by my gut feeling and when it talks to me its a plus too.  You can never have enough C&R's!!!!   I hope the mosin's will stay affordable for a long time to come so everyone can enjoy these fine accurate rifles. Congrats on your purchase and when your gun safe is full buy another gun safe and fill that one too!!!!!  Remember happiness is a warm barrel!!!

NRAJOE you just reminded me of my brand new 1944 M44 laminated stock mosin thats still sitting in my safe for about 20+ years and i only shot it once.  I bought it with a case of Chinese 7.62x54 ammo and for many years I thought it was a chinese mosin I forgot it was a russian mosin w/chinese ammo.  Mikey and S.Sumner here helped me identify what other few surplups I had that I had no clue at the time as to what they were.  Just lately I picked up an M38 and M91/59 both in excellent condition so we can still find some great mosins still out there.    BigBill

kjeff.50cal,

You won't be sorry!  These rifles are a great buy right now and you have actually picked up a piece of history.

My rifles (see forum topic "Photos that I promised......") are a source for some interesting shooting in the last year or so.  The MN-44 is a very accurate shooter and easy to carry (would make a very good Deer rifle). The carbine-length of the MN-44 is quite manuverable in dense brush and I was lucky enough to find one with the "K in a Circle" proof-stamp indicating 'accuracy tested'.

Good Luck and tell us more when you actually get it in your hands!

Big Bill,

I can't believe you've had a "brand-new MN-44" sitting around for 20 years?  What else do you have in the back of that gun safe that might prove to be abit interesting?

Is there possibly a Swiss Vetterli in there?  How about a Martini-Henry (Zulu War)?

Take care and you've got to look in that puppy abit more often,
