Ok here's the deal my buddy left me his 222 with a bull barrel & Leupold scope....nice rig..it's best 5 shot group is .61 with a 52 gr. HPBT Sierra...& IMR 4198 18.5 grs...great for paper punching..But Slow to assemble using stick type powders..My challenge is to find a load over 3100 fps with a soft or hollow point bullet & use an easy to meter ball type powder...Win.748 or similar..speer manual is telling me to use magnum primers ...I have never used these with any of my cartridges before..Will accuracy suffer ?? do magnum primers give a cleaner burn?? To Any here who have loaded for this classic round could you share some of your loads that work..TIA, Mike in Ct...ps he is out in western Pa with this little gun & I have the 22 250 here in Ct.

18.5 gr. of IMR 4198 is rather light. My experience is that the .222 shoots it's best when pushed harder. I used 50gr Speer TNT and 20.0 gr Imr 4198 or 25.0gr H-335. I had two Rem. 788's in .222 and both shot under 1/2 in when the loads were hotter. The second rifle shoots .2 &.3 most of the time, when it dosen't it's usually operator error. You will have to work up to these loads in your rifle as they are at or near max in some rifles.

My best load for 222 Rem Sierra 52 hpbt 20.0 gr of IMR 4198,
standard primers, When I do my part, It will shot a 1/4 in. Would not use any thing else. Marv.

What Marv said, only I use Hornady 50-grain V-Max bullets. A little more explosive on prairie dogs.

I usually load Blc-2 powder in the .222 round. H-322 and H-335 are also very good and any of them may shoot best in your gun. They are also all ball powders.
