politically correct magazine racks[no hunters need apply]
« on: June 01, 2004, 05:28:40 PM »
I have noticed the magazine racks are getting politically correct-hunting magazines are being deleted.Westill get fishing magazines[ fly fishing ]but firearms and hunting magazines aren't being ordered. Some stores have announced they won't carry them because they ''promote violence''
Somehow I'd rather my kid see a hunting magazine  than Playboy.
ps - I have noticed that this isn't the case in rural communities where hunting is still an acceptable  way of life- even the churches have ''game dinners''

I brought this up a while ago regarding chapters and her other stores. see the post in this section. support retailers who continue to stock out products; boycott those who don't. and make sure to tell them why.
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!

ratherbefishin,(or shouldn't that be ratherbefishinorhuntin')You're right about the small communities that still support hunting.I love driving through southern BC during hunting seasons, thru communities like Greenwood and Grand Forks and seeing motels with big signs out front saying WELCOME HUNTERS and SPECIAL RATES FOR HUNTERS.Then you stop for a burger and the waitress asks how your trip has been so far and have you got your buck yet? Then you head up to 100 Mile House or Williams Lake and on the local radio station they're talking about ammo on sale for your '06 or .270 at Freds Hardware Store(No giant Home Depot up there)Lets face it,the further away you get from Vancouver Island or metropolitin Vancouver the more at home we as hunters can feel.I've found that once you hit the farming communities out near Chilliwack and east of there the attitude towards hunters changes big time.
But it's still a long way to go to buy a copy of Petersons Hunting!

ratherbe,

One outlet that does still stock firearm/hunting mag's is Tanner's in Sidney.  They carry everything from Primitive Archery to the Shotgun News and even obscure european hunting journals from time to time.

But you're right, very few stores down here carry "decent" outdoor mag's.

well ,it really chokes me, they won't carry hunting magazines, but Penthouse is OK.I just happen to enjoy getting out with my boys and spending time with them, camping, out door cooking , hunting, and enjoying just being away from everyday life .Will some one please tell me what's so ''bad'' about that?I happen to feel there is no diference between eating a steak I bought from the store, or taking it in the field.Matterof fact the buck I kill had a heck of a lot more ''natural'' life than a steer, and my bullet ended his life a whole lot easier than starvation, or a wolf pulling him down[ or is that death ''politically  correct'' because it's ''natural''?]
These ideological ''holier than thou'' people tick me off.

I just spent some time up in the Quesnel area prospecting and on my way up I stopped in several of the small towns for gas and some more supplies. In 100 Mile House Safeway there was only one gun mag "Reloadeder" and a couple of specialty bow hunting mags . Quesnel Safeway didn't have any. I was looking for something to read and didn't find anything worth getting. Not only talking about Playboy style mags, but how about those Rock Star type mags with the creeps on the cover that are everywhere? Gun mags are bad though, go figure!
