Wanna know how fast you're driving?
« on: June 09, 2003, 02:22:03 PM »
I put a set of larger tired on my truck and wondered how it affected my odometor.  I remembered that I had my GPS in the truck, so got it out and it was really amazing.  I do not know how fast a handheld GPS will clock, but it has to be over 65mph.  Anybody have an idea?  And by the way, I gained 3 miles an hour at 30mph,  4 at 43mph,  and 5 at 56mph.
Life is short......eternity is long.

longwinters,
my speedometer in my car quit working a while back. now that I have a Garmin legend I no longer need the speedometer because the gps does it for me. I carry it every where I go. I find that it is the perfect speedometer. as far as how fast it will measure, I beleive it will kep up with any speed you could possibly acheve in an automobile, not that I've tested much above 75 mph or so. It is very responsive to speed changes and I think has made me a more responsible driver because I am constantly keeping right on the speed limit. I just love my gps.

Well, 65 Mph huh!

My Etrex was up to about 580 Mph when I tracked my flight from spain to london. the deviation of Mph was +/- 3mph as the auto pilot compensated.
The elevation was 18000+ ft.

So I would safely say your GPS will out speed your car.
Ps. Did ask the pilots permission and he was quite interested & positive(british airways).

Most bass fishermen use them for bragging rights about who has the fastest boat.  I never could understand why you need 100 MPH to fish.

The speed of a bass boat originated in the high dollar tournament circuit. The fisherman had so many hours to catch the heaviest, pre-determined amount of fish. This meant he had to get on a hot spot and on to another quickly. The tournament purse could pay for his boat and the remainder of the season would be profit, not to mention the sponsors watching him win. Voila.....you have a 70MPH Bass Boat.
